Hmmmm, it says it's got a 5.1 soundtrack, which the previous Director's Cut lacked. Plus it seems to have the documentary from the Theatrical Cut disc, and perhaps the alternate ending as well as the deleted scenes. Throw in the commentary and the trailer, and you've basically got the best of both discs. Now, if only the added footage didn't look so crappy, it could be the ultimate Army of Darkness DVD! Which begs the question...if the soundtrack really HAS been done up in 5.1, perhaps the picture has been remastered also?
Wishful thinking...
Nope, it's exactly the same as the old disc (there were rumours the commentary wouldn't make it. Thankfully, it has.)

Does it acctually come in that brown paper bag  Any idea what the proper case inside will look like?
Which older version is it the same as??? Or is it a combination any reviews of the older version so i can have a read of what the picture is like anyone?
Also wanted Army and this has appeared out of nowhere:confused:
Any other info would be great
cheers:)
As far as I know, that is a regular Amaray keepcase with a normal cover, made to look like an old paper bag.
So apart from the added 5.1 is this identical to the directors cut already out?
It is exactly the same disc as the director's cut disc that came in the original 2-disc limited edition and the subsequent 1-disc director's cut limited edition.
As far as I know, this Bootleg edition, with amusing packaging but exactly the same disc content, is NOT limited in any way.
It features a lesser video transfer, which is explained here, taken from a interview with Anchor Bay top dog William Lustig (also the director of Maniac), which you can read the whole of here (http://www.mhvf.net/forum/euro/posts/23304.html:).
Many readers believe or hope that there are better materials on that director's cut than those that were used. One reader mentions that the European version contains some of the footage and is supposed to be in very good shape. Could you describe if the search for materials for AOD included overseas resources, and clarify if you believe better materials were and/or are available?
For several months, both StudioCanal and myself literally searched the world for Director’s Cut film elements. The best we could find was a Japanese D2 of the cut international version with the apocalyptic ending. So to create the ARMY Director’s cut, we assembled the best elements using Bruce’s personal ¾” tape – the only existing element in the world of Sam’s original cut.
FYI, there were 3 edits of this film – Sam’s original version, the cut international version with the apocalyptic ending and the Universal version. The original production company destroyed all the ARMY outtake footage when they went bankrupt.
There is no 5.1 soundtrack - 2.0 surround only, just like the original disc (which it is a replica of).

A bit od that they have a little bit of the old cover coming out of the top  Personally that brown paper bg look makes itlook a bit crap :(
That's the point! They're doing a spoof "official" bootleg (ie. pirate) version, complete in dodgy brown paper bag.
So has this now become the best verson avaible of Army Of Darkness to own?????????????

Good Point :D
Still I would prefer if Ithd the amaray inside a brown paper bag slipcase :)
Jez - I'd get both the Anchor Bay THX version and this new bootleg edition, for all the extras, and both versions.

......and mine's been posted by play!!!!!:D
Now if only Movietyyme were as prompt:rolleyes:
there a 2 versions of this on play.If this is the best version how comes its only 14.99 compared to £17.99 of the other version.Wanted this for a while and still confused as to whether this is the version to get.So if i was to pay an astromaical amount for the limited editon there is nothing different from that and this bootleg version.??

Anyone noticed tho, that its being distributed by Universal? I seem to remember that they are heavily slagged off in the commentary!
I find it quite odd they'd allow a full slagging off in the commentary. Prolly wrong mind.

It's the same exact edition like the Canadian/US 1 Disc LE, with this cover inside the brown over-cover:

All the features are the same, a dir's cut which is what those 15 mins of extra footage is, its in rough form so they can't get it THX certified, the Raimi and Campbell commentary, as well as 4 deleted scenes and production stills/storyboards.
If you also want an alternate ending and a The Men Behind the Army documentary narrated by Bruce C., then get the non-limited edition theatrical cut, that way you'll have both discs that come in that rare now expensive (over $200 on ebay) 2disc LE.

Read the small print on the back of the case "Distributed By Anchor Bay Entertainment Inc.".
There is a Universal logo on the front because they still own the rights to the film, which they licensed to Anchor Bay.
So is there any chance in the future of us getting a disk with the longer cut of the film and the supermarket ending? Everyone I know prefers it to the apocalyptic ending but so far we can only see it with the short cut of the film.

There's a chance that the R1 2-disc L.E that's now OOP will get a R2 release next year! Don't forget, the R2 Halloween release by AB used to be a 2-disc L.E on R1!!!
