View Full Version : For those who can receive XFM in London (Movie quiz) - NOW WITH SOUNDS!
Has anyone being listening to the movie quiz that Chris O'Connel does on his breakfast show at about 6.25am weekdays. He plays a sound snippet from a film and you have to guess which film. The current one has stumped all of London for almsot 3 weeks! They have had 91 wrong guesses. The sound is of something smashing (glass, vase ?) into what sounds like lots of pieces. It's a really tough one ! Tune in tomorrow - I think its 104.7 FM in London Area, or Sky Digital channel 864.
I think you should rename the thread title "For those who can receive XFM in London and who are awake at 6.25am".
at about 6.25am weekdays
  Didn't know such a time actually exist!
No don't turn up XFM until 7.15am so haven't heard it.
Believe me it's not choice that makes me get up at that time. Lovely LONG commute to work....

I've been listening to it. Had my money on it being from The Blues Brothers but somebody said that yesterday.
104.9 FM in fact, but yeah, we've hard it on the DAB radio (I'm on Radio 4 at the moment, but otherwise I get it) in the mornings before work.
I thought it had to be the vase in Meet The Parents but that was wrong too.
Has anyone actually specifically said Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade yet? I know someone mentioned Radiers but I don't know how harsh their being on this one.
Is there anywhere they've got a list of all the wrong entries, though?
i thought it sounded like a breaking window but i havent really paid that much attention to it. i'm more in the bleurghhhh mode at that time of the morning. shall pay attention tomorrow if i remember
Yeah I think some women mentioned all three Indy films and I'm sure someone mentioned that specific one before. I've heard it every morning for 2 and a half weeks and its driving me nuts! Theres no list anywhere (not on xfm.co.uk either)....
They gave two "clues" - its a very popular film and - it's not really a defining film for it's genre. They omitted to tell us which genre!
I was convinced it was Begby dropping his pint in Trainspotting, then I thought it was Meet the Parents too.
Any chance you can record it CRB and put it up here? I would but I might get killed for setting the alarm the requisite 10 mins or so early so I could set it up. ;)
(Add to that I don't particularly want to start my day 10 mins earlier, and with my stereo recording random noises from the radio! )

It's annoying that I can't properly get XFM in my car in Surrey. Just doesn't quite lock on to the signal
How good are DAB radios in cars for sorting out crud signals like this? Would I just end up with no signal at all, or would it give me it crystal clear?
I get XFM on Sky of course, but that's not much use in the car!
I'm fed up with the crud that is Radio 1 and Capital (and the less said about the other local radio stations the better :gag: ).
XFM is the only station I can bear to listen to. Plus its all the music I like.
Recording...well...I do have a CD-R player that can record onto discs. So far so good. But from a CD how do I convert into a file to load up onto here ?
Run it through an MP3 ripper like a normal CD? You could just get Windows Media to extra the information to a WMA file. :)
Okay so this morning I heard the following wrong answers related:
Gone With The Wind
Gone In 60 Seconds
Monty Python and the Holy Grailen
Young Frankenstein
The Long Good Friday
There may have been a few others. Compo prize is up to something like £107 now.
Now for me its just getting annoying! I really cant't get it...
Someone also said "Pirates of the Carribean" when the blacksmith hits Depp over the head with a bottle. Good guess, but wrong...
£107 means 107 wrong guesses !
Still reckon some of those will be a movie that's already been mentioned. I hope they've got a list somewhere. Maybe I'll email the show?
It's very distinct sort of break, isn't it? Unless it's not a break but something like a large chain falling to the ground. I'll set up my stereo to auto record it on Monday if I remember...

XFM can be listened to on-line at www.xfm.co.uk

110 guesses now...
Its definately glass/vase I think...
Right it's up to £132 in the pot now. I was able to record the noise this morning so enjoy:

Note: The 'ding' on the end isn't part of it - it's them dinging a bell to show the caller got it wrong.
Wrong guesses I can remember from the last couple of days:
Fellowship of the Ring
Stripes
Caddyshack
Independence Day
Dune
Blade Runner
Bridget Jones's Diary
East is East
The Ring
They also said it had been on in the last few months...
Perhaps CRB can update the title to say "Now with sounds!!" :D
Yeah shown on TV on Channel 5. Not that that "clue" helps me...
Also ISN'T:
Terminator 2
Monty Pythons Holy Grail
Trading Places
After this morning's guesses, more incorrect attempts:
Dune
Bridget Joens Diary
Bladerunner
28 days
Full Monty
Dark Crystal
ET
Lucky Break
American Beauty
Superman 2
Superman 3
Get Carter
Kill Bill
Moonwalker
Scary Movie
Labyrinth
101 Dalmaations
Taxi Driver
8 mile
Apocalypse Now
I still cant get it, its now at 142 guesses...
Someone got it today (winning about £250) - Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Steve Martin knocks a vase over while being Ruprect (I think that was the name), Michael Caine's fake brother...
Haha! you beat me too it - I was just about to do a search for this thread ! The relief is enormous - there were something like 250 wrong guesses !!!
OK folks, lets see what turns up a s the new one on Monday ! TheoGB will you be able to sample that one too if it gets too difficult ????
Yeah, probably will!
