Ok I stole the idea off Jeff of course :D but..

I have just been thinking about all the HK films I have been watching lately, especially on the excellent HKL label and well trying to think about the best for that other thread I was thinking about the most visually striking scenes in these movies, the moments where I think "Damn, that's cool!"

There are just loads I can think of, but from recent memory these 2 stand out

Once Upon A Time In China:

The old (master) warrior is fighting (that great sword fight in the rain) and that guy attacks him while his back is turned, he of course avoids the blow.. he stands there, seriously ****sed! Facing away from the camera but with his head turned toward it, holding his sword across his back ready to strike. & comes out with:
"You DARE strike at me from behind!?" (or something close)

& the guy is like
Eeep!

So cool ;)

Purple Storm:

The main aging terrorist returns *home* after being away for years, he walks into the building, but we don't see him, we just see his shadow move on the wall and the like. The guy there hears noises and grabs a knife which he hides behind his back, you see him standing there, close up on his face while the terrorist walks up to him, there's total silence and then you see the knife drop to the floor (breaking the silence) with blood on it - the guy was so shocked to see him he cut himself

That whole scene really impressed me

Those are both great moments.
I'm sure there are a million more that I'll think of later, but these two immediately spring to mind:

The fist appearance of Brigitte Lin in The Bride with White Hair will always stick in my mind. Lian Nichang (Lin) flies out of nowhere, and proceeds to dismember a band of marauding soldiers, still having time to sneer, stare, and look utterly gorgeous. 50+ Lin Ching-hsia films later, and I still can't get enough.

Green Snake is easily one of the most visually amazing film I've ever seen. Can't really pin down one moment, but it even tops The Bride with White Hair, or Tsui's other epics like the OUaTiC films, and his Zu movies. I only have it on a poor quality VCD, but every frame is awe-inspiring. And Maggie Cheung's performance is an eye-opener :)
I wish HKL would hurry up with this one…

after the first 30 minutes of 2000 AD the rest of the film in its entirety was "cool", 4 big gunplay scenes and a car chase and the finale at the convention centre.

In terms of martial arts - whenever Bruce Lee is on the screen, fighting, it is automatically cool.

The whole of chapter 21 in magnificent butcher....

Legend of Figher - when the dad realises his son can not only do martial arts, he is bloody good at it too.

there's a few for now :)

There are many many scenes, but to start my list i'll add....

Shaolin Soccer - the entire film!!! but standout sequences include the Directors cut dance sequence (WOW), and, well yeah, the whole film :D

Time and Tide - when the cameraman just dives out the window :)

Better Tomorrow - Chow taking revenge on that smug faced git that got Ho sent to prison....Chows little speech about 'we're all gods' and that freeze frame, hell, Chow Yun Fat IS COOL :)
