Your personal favorite Kubrick film moment / film scene - in terms of it holding any special funny / serious meanings for you.

Although ridiculously not on dvd, mine is the café / bar scene in K's best film Paths of Glory. When the crowd is hushed and broken by a German girl's song. So simple and complex all at the same time. Her singing to a room of men, reminding them of their humanity after all they've been through and how brutal they?ve become. No effects, just another scene anyone technically could?ve put a camera in front of and photographed, but by K, it's as moving a scene as they come and a sheer masterpiece K film moment.

Dr Strangelove: the scene in which the US president has to deliver the bad news about the coming attacks to the Russian President: "I...well now let me finish Dimitri.......LET me finish Dimitri..........Dimitri???"

LMAO every time. :)

Close second: Strangelove again: the Major riding the bomb to its destination, the ultimate cowboy ride!

Well one of them is in my sig.... The classic slow pull out shot in the Korovo milk bar at the very beginning of ACO.

Barry Lyndon -
the last duel in the film... Such an effective sequence shot so beautifully and it is probably the longest standoff I have ever seen, pure tension

The Shining - Again the Kubrick stare from Jack... Nicholson and McDowell both perfected the Kubrick stare.

FMJ - Sniper sequence... but if I have to pick a specific shot
It's the one looking down on the sniper when she pleads with them... very moving

I'd mention the pleading stare from David when he is in the copter under water as that's pure Kubrick but I'm sure that's not allowed :)

And do you mean Paths of Glory isn't on disc, or that scene isn't...

I have that disc and quite a nice one it is too and I'm sure that scene is there... MB reviewed it on DVDtimes

Definately the opening shot to Clockwork Orange, as Clipper said. Those eyes, that synthesised Ludwig Van.......

The Shining: Little Torrence on his bike ... bbrrrrrrrr KLANgggggg brrrrr KLANgggg then suddenly stopping and staring at the sisters :eek: Then I love the opening as well (even with the shadow of the chopper in clear view!! How unKubrick is that :eek: )

2001: All of them :p 'specially the last shot.

Lolita: Lolita saying goodbye to Mason as she leaves for summer camp.

Eyes Wide Shut: The pot smoking scene where it all starts to go horribly wrong. And I quite like the scene round the pool table as well.

Call me shallow but I liked the scene in eyes wide shut where all the birds were naked - damn such perfect bodies...so not fair!!!

My favourite is near the end of Dr Strangelove when Peter Sellers is in his wheelchair and can not control his arm, I don't know why but his action and his voice just make me laugh.

Full Metal jacket contains a lot of memorable scenes, but the killing of the Viatnamese snipper is the most emotional for me.

Oooh there are simply too many. I love the scene in Barry Lyndon where they are on the balcony as somebody mentioned above. I also think that the chase scene through the maze in The Shining is incredibly atmospheric.

Where do I start...

<i>Spartacus</i>- the famous snails/oysters scene, which is incredibly funny in a sort of League of Gentlemen-esque way, and a reminder that old Stan could do humour too.

<i>Lolita</i>- when Humbert is told about his wife's death while he's in the bath, again a comedy classic moment.

<i>A Clockwork Orange</i>- Alex dispensing slow-motion justice to his droogs to the strains of lovely Ludwig, in possibly the most gloriously balletic bit of violence ever filmed.

<i>Barry Lyndon</i>- Just about all of it, actually; it's too good a film to pick bits from arbitrarily.

<i>Full Metal Jacket</i>- 'Private Pyle has a full magazine', and one of the weirdest, creepiest scenes in a war film I can remember.

The others all have wonderful bits too, from Paths of Glory's backwards tracking shots to Eyes Wide Shut's orgy scene....
