any cop? i picked it up in hmv today as part of the 3 for 20 deal, and i know there's various prints of the movie.. it says its 134mins (from memory) so thats the complete cut yeah?

as a disc is it ok, or do the various r1 versions trounce it severely? for £6 im hoping its a decent enough buy as i didn't pay enough attention to it when i saw it on tv during xmas... cheers :)

i also picked it up for £6.33 :p

was considering the Criterion, see my post on the Region Comparison forum.

But couldnt resist the the R2 at such a cheap price.

in terms of extras of course the Criterion will win.

But the R2 is anamorpich whereas the R1s are not. And loos nice too. I had the DivX ripped from Criterion obv its not a good indication of the DVD, but it looked a little washed out. The constrast looks better on the R2, but it has a blue tinge to it.

although the cuts on the R2 and Criterion are slightly different, i would still say the R2 was 'complete'. The Crit has an extended intro and few other scenes, not really sure if they make much difference.

But one thing is for sure, the R2 isnt the messed up studio cut.

For what it's worth, despite the non-anamorphic print, the Criterion is the absolute dogs danglies and well worth the money

It does even include the dreaded studio cut (on the 3rd disc), complete with a commentary explaining just how bad editing can change and ruin a film. Interesting.

Thankfully my 100Hz telly has a mode which makes non-anamorphic NTSC look half decent, so the picture isn't an issue.

If you're only mildly interested in the film, then maybe the R2 is worth checking out, but if you love this film, the Criterion is the one to get (and I'm not a "Criterion is god" believer either, some of their stuff is poor and some a complete rip-off, but this is worth it).

I also went for the R2 it was just a mater of money really. the criterion would be 65€ in the shops and I got the R2 for 10€. never having seen the film, the criterion was a bit risky.

The R2 cut is near identical to the Criterion; the only obvious difference is in the opening title sequence. The R2 has significantly better picture quality, and is much cheaper. For me, it's a no-brainer.
