Hello,
First time posting
Been home cinema-ing for a year now, already on second system (!)
Upgraded from a philips theatre amp + speakers (mx980) to -
Sony STRDB790 Receiver (DDEX, DTS-ES, DPLII, Neo6 100Wpc max)
Sony DVPNC615 DVD (Flatmate's)(Standard spec with 5 disc changer...soon to be changed to a Tosh SD220E
from Amazon for £39.99!!)
Philips VR530 VCR (6-Head Nicam)
Thomson Sky Digibox (Generic)
Acoustic Solutions AV120(Cheap Floorstanders 120W handling X4)
Philips Centre Speaker (From previous system)
Philips WooX Active Sub (From previous system, 50W)
PS2, Gamecube, XBox
TV is an Old Toshiba 29" (a 2907DB I think) about 10 Yrs old, inherited from my Dad
(4:3 Nicam, 2X Scart(1 RGB, 1 AV/S-Video), Rear RCA/S-Video in/out, Front RCA/S-Video in)
Still performs well, seems to be cast from a solid hunk of granite.
Cabling Set-up
Picture
For tv watching the digibox is in to Scart 1(£8 RGB lead), with vcr looped through digibox scarts.
For DVD i pull out the digibox and put the dvd into Scart 1
(£10 gold RGB lead)(Fiddly, but easy enough if you're
sad like me)
Xbox is scarted in to Scart 2(if i'm having a real saddo day i put it in scart 1)
PS2 and Gamecube are in the composite rca front and back
Sound
Dvd is into receiver with a co-ax digital(generic JVC, seems good quality tho).
Digibox is into receiver with stereo rca(vcr sound passes through this)(jvc leads again)
Xbox is in with an optical (TOSlink-TOSlink)(jvc)
Gamecube and PS2 are in with stereo RCAs.(standard cables)
Speakers
Front and centre speakers are linked with IXOS Black OFC Cable (£1/m)
Rear speakers are linked with QEd 79 Strand (1.75/m)
Sub is linked with included single rca cable.
****UPGRADE PATH - ANY ADVICE/SUGGESTIONS WELCOME*****
What i am looking to do is replace the centre and sub (may be selling my older philips
system) and add a centre rear in order to take advantage of DTS-ES.
Options i have seen include
SUB - Eltax Thunder 8 (Richer Sounds special £50, which is my budget really)
Centre & Centre Rear - Sony SSCR105m (£50 package, mainly designed for older pro-logic hifis)
I am also looking into upgrading my scart cables possibly to QED Performance Sqarts £20 each
Have also decided to get myself a b-tech rgb scart switcher
any advice is welcome
