read on ceefax a couple of days ago that pier luigi collina might consider a move to the premier league to extend his career as the cut off age in italy is 45 where-as over here its 48,
i think it would be interesting if he came over but seeing him week in and week out would lower the esteem he's held in over here as we'd see him make the same mistakes and bad desicions that every other ref does,

I doubt they would allow it? Dont all Premier League refs have to be English?
would like to see him ref over here.
UEFA have give the OK for a ref exchange trial so we will get some refs

It would be far more sensible for the Italian F.A to do like our F.A do - you can ref up to any age, as long as you pass the fitness test.
Stupid to lose a top ref when he can still be going.

That rule has only come into force this season I believe.
I do find it a bit strange that Collina is held in such high regard outside of Italy but not in the country itself. Personally I would like to see him referee over here for a few years, and would like to see how the players would react to him when he makes a controversial decision.

You mean the 1997, 1998, 2000, 2002 and 2003 Italian Ref of the Year isn't held in high regard in Italy.
The Italian Referees Association will probably buckle under the pressure and make an excpetion or change the rules for Collina.

Isn't that because he, as with most refs over there, are seen as being favourable to the big teams.

The rule on age has come in over here because of an EU directive. It's age discrimination to say you can't do the job beacause you're too old.

How exactly is he supposed to be favourable to the big teams?
Because he actually gets the big decisions right as opposed to the useless berks we have over here?

I watch more live Italian games then premiership (no sky sports here :-( ) and i'd say not really :)

I would doubt very much that anyone could say this! I mean, not since the days of Waddle and Keegan could you suggest such a thing - of course there was Souness and Johnston not forgetting Berry from Wolves but I think that was natural.
I'd say that there's no league in Europe more permier than the Italian league - plenty of bouffant styles over there and ponytails of course - unless we're talking demi-wave then you might have a point
But permier? No way, not any more.
:p

Well if you follow Serie A you will understand that most refs in italy are seen as being in the pockets of the big teams, collina included. There have been a number of times where he has been seen favouring the big sides, one was in the championship run in a couple of years ago. When i was out there in october I asked about collina and most seemed to think he was a good ref but did not hold him in the same regard we do for the reasons i mentioned above.

LOL did it have something to do with Juventus and there dodgy pens
It would be very interesting to see Collina in the premiership just to see what he is like on a regular basis.
I would think his head would get pretty cold over here.
