View Full Version : Kevin Smith?
All,
Can someone suggest the best place to pick up the Kevin Smith/Jay and Silent Bob movies (Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma)?
I don't think getting region two's is an option, as the number of extra's on the region one's is awesome (vs a distinct lack of extras on the two's).
Looking for best price as they seem to be quite pricey everywhere.
Cheers,
Dan.
A & B Sound (http://www.absound.ca) is a fairly good bet for all of them. The shipping cost on the double disc ones (Dogma and Clerks animated) brings them up to about the same you'd pay at Play (http://www.play.com) or ********* (http://www.*********.com) though. The others are cheaper at absound. Delivery takes about a week.
I got mine from www.dv-depot.com - although Mallrats was a little pricey.
this'll probably be moved into the Supplier forum, but you can get a good idea of everyone's favourite DVD e-tailers over there anyway, so check it out......

Alternatively you could pick up signed versions from Smiths store Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash (http://store.yahoo.com/jsbstash/). ;)
BTW did anyone realise the 'Buddy Christ' figure available @ the stash is a taxable item due to it being listed as a "religious artifact" by the British customs service.

It's worth checking Ebay for these disks..... I managed to get a set of Clerks/Mallrats/Chasing Amy (all SEs) Canadian pressings I think that was for USD50 plus shipping.
Dogma SE I bought from ********* and Clerks Animated SE from Play..... I think in the end I paid something like USD100 for the whole KS collection so far.
I guess the problem with R2 versions, is that the films rights are owned by various parties all with different release strategies for Europe - I guess its a miracle that the US SEs ever got completed :)
Matt
Just got clerks animated last night. only watched 2 episodes so far. had read that they are the worst and struggle to be funny, with the humour greatly improving further into the series.
if the first two are anything to go by, i will need clean pants by the end of the disc :)

Has anyone in the UK ordered from here? Did they experience the 6 week delay on signed stuff? Also, did you get hit by customs?

Total Action Universe (http://www.totalactionuniverse.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?) have a free shipping offer this weekend which means you can get them all (inc. Clerks: Uncensored) for CA$161.75 (http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/m5?a=161.75&s=CAD&t=GBP&c=0).
EDIT: Added the link to TAU.

My Mallrats took 2 weeks to arrive, so no 6 week delay. And no customs charges :)

Mine was almost the exact opposite! :) I ordered the signed Clerks and Mallrats DVDs for a friend about two years ago, the order took at least six weeks and it got stung by customs!
I ordered a t-shirt in August. Still waiting...
got an email from 'Bryan Johnson' though... :)

The first episode on the second disc of Clerks: TAS is absolutly the funniest cartoon I've seen in ages, better than recent Simpsons and any Family Guy or South Park, why this didnt get picked up as a series is beyond me, anyway roll on Clerks: Sell Out.
BTW Lucy I read your review of Ghost World, the first female view on the film I've seen. I always wondered what a womans point of view would be on a book/film written by a man about two teeenage girls.

I agree, especially on second viewing....however you can see why, after the network messed around with the order of the shows (and never showed the pilot where plot lines were established for show 2), why the public tested it so badly, and why the shows were pulled.
There was quite a bit of assumed knowledge from the movie - which is fine if like me you are au fait with the View Askew-niverse, but for Joe 6-Pack it wouldn't have made an earthly.
Looking forward to the full length animated feature to come !

Here, Here. Now for the obligatory...
Who is driving, oh my god bear is driving. How can that be:D
Speaking of which, is the 'is it safe' routine something from a movie. Cos I didn't get the joke and found the first 5 mins of the first episode terrible. Although the second episode is very funny.
IT'S FROOOZZZEN !!!
I think the 'is it safe' thing is a reference to the scene in Marathon Man where Dustin Hoffman is being interogated by the evil dentist.

It is indeed from 'Marathon Man'. :)

Well. Ha! I don't know if you've read the comics mr tramp, but i think Daniel Clowes must follow teenage girls around all the time, because they are SO SO SO accurate. I meant to write that in my review, but i er, forgot.
of course there is always columbia house as well

What is the % you have to pay on customs charge? I want to spend about £100 or so. Also, anyone know what the excahnge rate is right now ($ to £)? :)

I think it's 17.5% VAT + 3% Handling charge, so overall: 21.5%!!!!

Ordering them all from TAU would come to £71.64 at the current exchange rate, or about £87 if you get hit by Customs. Look above for the link ;)

But as it's free shipping, just order each one separately, so no customs charges! Hurrah!

I ordered a lot of stuff from J&SBST including a signed copy of Mallrats, it came in under 7 days, and in two packages.
