The New Superbit edt sounds tempting, but I'd prefer extras..
Ive heard theres a german edition with DTS & possibly some extras on it, but Amazon.de only list the UK import...

This is the one you're looking for. Remember, in German it's not called "The Fifth Element".........

Have owned and now traded on the original R1 and R2 releases.

I'm a sucker for extra's and so shall be ordering both the German 2-Disc DTS release in addition to the new R1 Superbit. :D

You do realise that the German version uses the same print as the UK R2, complete with all the minor niggles ?.

As far as transfer quality goes, I don't think too many people would dispute this order (best first):

1) R1 Superbit
2) R1 normal
3) R2

For a detailed comparison (with screenshots) between the original R1 and the R2 releases, see here. The general impression I get is that the Superbit discs have noticeably better sound, but the picture improvements are only worth seriously apparent if you have a very large telly or projector.

As for extras, Luc Besson doesn't like them, which is why his discs have been relatively bare-bones (usually trailers).

I've got the German SE and the extra's really are superb

in terms of the quality of the disc the Sound is better then the Standard R1 edition (I don't have the superbit one) and while the picture quality is OK the standard R1 probably is a little better on my 36" Sony.

If you want extras then the German dis is the one to get
If you picture and sound excellence then the concensious seems to be R1 Superbit
