Got my copy of this today....
Initial impressions are pretty good. Surround mix isnt OTT and gimicking and more serves to open the music more, if anyone knows what i mean. It all feels a lot less crampt and you can generally hear the music parts better.
A nice package, though the lack of lyrics seems odd to me.
Will post some more detailed thoughts when played the whole thing.
Pinball Wizard sounds great:thumbs:

I'm a huge fan of The Who so very interested to hear any more comments. Thinking about buying a new separate set-up soon so this may influence what I buy too. Cheers

Glad to see I got one reply at least!
Well, obviously you are familiar with Tommy then...the new 5.1 mix isnt (thankfully) all gimmicky and hard to listen to. The rear channels are not used for the sake of showing off the fact that is in surround. I never felt i wasnt listening to the same album I know and love. It just sounded, well, better.
It is all a lot more immersive and hasnt ever sounded as good. if you do get a new sound set up and love the Who, you really MUST get this imo. But I dont think it is maybe worth splashing out on a whole new set up for this alone. But there are more and more good titles coming out (DSOTM still remains my fave SACD).
The bonus disc is quite nice. Only 12 of the 15 IIRC tracks are in 5.1, the others only stereo if that is a major concern. Doubt i will listen to it many times tho, but interesting nonetheless. Any big fan should have a listin, but a casual listener maybe should bother tbh.
One on my list when I upgrade to a Pioneer multi-format DVD player!
Many thanks for the review, Thomasc 1982  - roll on Quadrophenia....
