I got to get me one of these! Not too sure about the colour though. Any chance of this being reduced in price for Chrimbo, Justin? ;)

Yummy! (http://www.homecinemaheaven.com/prod_info/dvd/dv747a.htm)

You`ll be lucky to even see one by christmas the way pioneer are at the moment, let alone a price reduction!

How about on that web page!

Oh an I so want one :) I currently have a Pioneer 717 which I have had for nearly 3 years and its a cracking good player, still plays all discs with great picture and sound IMO, the 737 is also a good player (progressive scan etc) so the 747 will the the dogs wedding tackle as far as I'm concerned (all though my bank manager may not agree!)

Ahhh.. I didn't realise that 'yummy' was a link to the player in question..

A grand though!! Serious money...

Very nice though.

that is one sexy mofo! pricey as hell though. I might just settle with the 737.

which leads me to my question i was going to ask.

what is (apart from the progressive scan) difference between the 737 and the 717?

I own a 717 at the moment and i was wondering if it would be worth my while getting a 737 for about 250 and selling my old 717 for 200.

Ok, updates for you all:)

Firstly, to confirm, I now have a price for these and we`ll be doing them for £799 inc. Availability to be confirmed, but we`re still expecting them late november.

As for DV737, this was discontinued last month, hence why we dropped them to £399. No more, sorry. As for differences between DV717 and Dv737:

DV717 used Pioneers first gen chipset, that was plagued with lip sync isues. Although this was resolved when they dropped the Dv515, and brought out the Dv525/Dv626 then Dv530/535/636, they kept the DV717 in production till end of last summer.

DV737 has a better video encoder, better drive, and also better PSU (DV717 was prone to dead PSU if you unplugged them in standby a lot). However, Dv737 is over a year old, and is not quite old in terms of performance compared to newer, cheaper machines like Pioneer Dv545 / 646 and Tosh SD510 / Marantz DV4100OSE.

Unless you can get a Dv737 cheap, I`d just save your money, or consider a Dv646a.

Hope that helps.

Must admit, I`m tempted to junk my pants Sony DVP9000ES for one - was going to have a DV939A as the price is about to get seriously reduced on this model, as DV747 replaces it:) I have a feeling that we`ll see the 939 for about £500ish shortly  Seeing as Pioneer cleared out the DV737 for a large reduction on normal trade:/

I almost ordered the 939 and am very glad I didn't manage to sell my decks a month ago. Roll on the 747, plenty of business for Justin me thinks!!!

To be honest, theres nothing actualy wrong with the Dv939, my friend uses one all the time, and it outperforms my sony 9000. Its just the price for what it is, but now its coming down its probably a good by, as the Dv747 won`t be as well made as the 939.

I'm confused as to which one to go for now. Will the 747 outperform the 939 then Justin, or should I just plump for the 939? I only would use the player for DVD and normal audio cd playback, but would also would like the MP3 playback facility that is featured on the 747.

The 939 looks a lot sexier than the 747 mind you. http://members.tripod.co.uk/splobber/smilies/naughty.gif

only prob (if it is a prob) with 939 is it doesnt play sacd. is this a prob? when were you planning to drop the price to 500?

The only problem there is that if SACD wins the war on audio then you may need to upgrade again!!! As the 747 is still coming in at £1000 RRP then it should still be very good build IMO though I can't comment until I see one which I am planning on doing. The 939 is built like a tank but I'm planning on covering my back format wise, if I'm gonna spend a large chunk (On my wages both will be) then I am planning on making sure I get the right one for :-

1. Video
2. Audio
3. Build
5. Future
4. Value
