View Full Version : America's Sweethearts - Missed opportunity
With such a big cast, America's Sweethearts could have been great if they had chosen to deliver a The Player like satire. Instead it's a missed opportunity. Check out the review in my sig!
This is naff IMHO...
Billy Crystal fails to deliver his usual wit, and the general story is rather naff. The story even lacks the romance that may well appeal to the relevant target audience.
I am going to stick my head on the block here and disagree with you guys. I enjoyed this film. It was not the best romantic comedy ever but it was enjoyable. Cusack and Roberts were good and Billy Crystal was his usual funny self.

I just came back from seeing this and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it.
It was actually better than I was expecting, and VERY funny IMHO.
The romance wasn't that great, and Julia Roberts playing her usual self made for no surprises but as a comedy, I thought it was really good.
That's probably the film I laughed the most with this year (as opposed to laughed at, but then I haven't seen Pearl Harbour). OK it's not as smart or bitting as Hedwig and The Angry Inch for example, but as far as mainstream comedy goes, it's way above the Farelly spin-offs on offer so far :eek: (as the preceding trailer for The Animal.. )
And on a sexy-rating, Mr Cusack was lovely as usual :p and Zeta-Jones looked gorgeous :mad: (yes I'm jealous ;) ).

Just come back from seeing this -
John Cusack; reliable as ever & always worth a watch.
Christopher Walken; the film's high point.
Everyone/everything else; so mediocre it hurts - Billy Crystal is an all time favourite of mine but even he misfires once too often in this film.
Very disappointing over all, particularly given the cast & writer abilities on offer.
The one stand out line for me;
Is that a gun in you pocket or are you just happy to see me?
Actually, it's a gun
I'll give it a 4 out of 10 because everyone looks lovely.
