bought grease today for some fun and on a few bits i noticed the sound sounded really weird, not like ive herd it on tv before, on particulur bits such as the grease lightning bit and the end it seems the sound has been alterd a bit to make it sound more beefy
any ideas
Probably due to the 5.1 Upmix

just sound bizzre
Take a listen to how "you're the one that I want" is now mixed into "we go togther" (right near the end of the film!).
Originally "you're the one..." just faded out as dialogue was spoken over the top and then the next song came crashing in. Which was nice
On the dvd though the fade out of the song has some added "whoo hoos" from Olivia NJ (obviously taken from earlier in the song) and the final little bit of the song is speeded up - and it sounds :gag: A really, really bad audio edit that. HOW this got passed the sound mixer is anyone's guess!?
There are other instances but this is the most obvious. I can only assume that this horrible remix was done for the 20th Anniversary theatrical re-release in 1998. I can only hope that the next Grease dvd (apparantly an SE is due this year!) retains the original sound mix.
(If anyone doubts me on this simply check an old vhs version containing the original audio mix to hear the startling difference!)

Greased Lightening has a few 'upgrades' as well. The songs been layered with extra riffs, and a few sound effects, ie when kenickie lights his smoke we get the sound of a flame thrower:nuts: and when the song is over and the car changes back we get a thunder whoosh sound for the transition.
