Don't you get really *****d off when you save your dosh to buy your favourite movies on DVD then to find a few months later another 'collector's edition' comes out or these days 'superbit' versions emerge!!?? Take for example Total Recall....it's had 3 releases now! Anyway are any of the 'Superbit' titles worth investing in such as Desperado or Air Force 1 as compared to the now obsolete, normal 5.1 DD editions??? Your views please....

I just love the way the industry has found a way of making a crap, bare-bones disc seem like a really good one. There is no need for this "saving space" lark.

I have got the Superbit CTHD to add to the R3 version I have had for ages.

Picture quality is better by quite a bit (the R3 version had an average picture in the first place) and the DTS soundtrack is very impressive.

I only bought it to see what all the fuss was about (it was only 16 quid from Play).

Will I be upgrading anymore of my existing collection to Superbit? NO

Will I buy Superbits instead of Feature packed version of future films? NO.

Now that I've read quite a few reviews, it seems that Superbit DVDs are only really worth it if you have an absolutely huge screen, preferably projection-based. In these setups, the difference is obvious, but with a standard 28"/32" widescreen CRT it's much less of an issue.

Michael's right. At a screen size of 120inches I can certainly see the difference. At 46inches I can also see the difference, but down at the 28inch its a much harder thing.

As I sold my R5 copy of 5th Elementh long ago and never owned CTHD, the difference is not obvious at all. Nevertheless I bought both of these Superbit releases and I am feeling quite satisfied 32inch :), the only thing annoyed (my wife) was absence of english language soundtrack of CTHD.

micky B. is quite correct in the majority of cases, but it does of course pay to analyse every situation seperately - negligible differences of course in the case of the Fifth Element, but with Desperado for example, the superbit release would have to be the only option, particularly because of the poor nature of the original release........

Well, to be fair, it did contain two features and tons of extras - and, let's face it, Desperado isn't exactly the greatest film ever made! (I bought it for El Mariachi and haven't even watched side two!)
