If you were able to buy a home cinema system, what would you buy? Need help as I'm thinking of buying the Sony DAV-S500.

Pioneer NSDV55 was the best all in one system (What Hi-Fi best all in one system 2000) but has just been discontinued. You`ll pick one up for £500 multiregion though (were £750).

Sony DAVS500 is an improvement on the DAVS300, but is still pants (despite the what hifi award this year!). Pioneer have the best reputation for all in ones, they actually started the format. The new NSDV77/88 is probably worth an audition, but has not been reviewed yet as its so new.

Hope that helps.

Dont do it.
Buy an NSDV-55 instead.
Very nice player and the sound is awesome.
Got mine from UpradeHeaven via the forums offer.
The NTSC to PAL conversion works a treat to.
My ol philips telly only does NTSC in B&W, yet with the Pioneer, i could watch R1 Saving Private Iron in glorious colour with DTS rattling the windows.

Why bother with an all-in-one when you can get a Tosh210 player and partner it with a Yamaha vs-10 system for approx £470??? Can anyone tell me this system wouldn't beat the pants off any of the afore-mentioned??

The VS10 is very limited, both in terms of inputs and sonically, its no match for the power amps in both the sony and the Pioneers. basically, its well outclassed by any true all in one package. The Yamaha HTib40 on the other hand is as good as the all in one packages, although the Pioneers have the edge over the sony sonically.
