Just noticed that this has been released in R1 land - anyone seen it? Is it meant to be any good?

I saw this last week - it's no masterpiece but it's very enjoyable and as expected has some great dialogue. Get's a 7/10 from me.

Not bad, typical Woody, but the twist this time around is that Jason Biggs takes the usual role that Mr. Allen usually sets for himself. Instead, Woody plays a mentor/father figure and literally steals the film in the process.

Christina Ricci is also excellent (and you'll really start to despise her character as the movie progresses), as is Stockard Channing as her lounge singer mom.

Yes, I bought it recently and rather liked it. No classic but it doesn't feel 'strained' the way I think The Curse of the Jade Scorpion and Hollywood Ending did.

Full of the usual excellent one-liners, dialogue way above average for current Hollywood output, something Allen doesn't receive nearly enough credit for. Film history will redress that I'm sure.

Too long though -- I kind of yearn for his old 80 or 90m movies.

I haven't been too fond of any of Woody's films since the magnificent "Deconstructing Harry" (which sort of summed up everything that had concerned him since the late 1970s) but I am looking forward to this one. Dene is dead on about Woody's dialogue though - even a below average example of his work has a few cracking one-liners.

Watched this yesterday and found it entertaining if a little so-so.

Then I read this theory WARNING SPOILER!!! (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0313792/board/nest/3357690) and it changed my opinion ten fold! Cool flick!

I totally agree. I'm a massive Woody fan and Biggs couldn't and didn't even come close.

Time Travel Plot - Brilliant !
Gonna have to watch it again.
Whether its true or not , it can add to the enjoyment if the theory fits!, like the Matrix essays for Reloaded & Revolutions

I just had a great laugh reading that time travel theory link. Nice one.

First I thought "yeah, right, Woody Allen doing a time travel movie, that'll be the day". Then I remembered "Sleeper".

Anyway, although the theory is a bit of fun, I suspect the intention was just to highlight the parallels in the two character's lives, like in Three Colours Red.

As for "Anything Else", I enjoyed it as I do most of Woody Allen's films. I'll be interested to see how the one he's currently shooting in London turns out.

While I'm waiting for "Anything Else" I just ordered (and not seen yet) -and please forgive me for going off-topic - could someone confirm if the UK release of "Deconstructing Harry" is in OAR? I can't seem to find info on that anywhere. I know R1 release has both WS and P&S, but am afraid that R2 is maybe only P&S. Anyone?

R2 is only available in 4:3 and is probably open matte. The anamorphic 1.85:1 included on the R1 is the OTAR.

A great film that uses a literary devise of two characters who are really just different aspects of each other. I don't need time travel to explain this. I think this film is complex, funny, poignant, smart and very well done; finally relieving us all the discomfiture of having to watch a septuagenarian chase around an ingénue. We now have a stand-in.
