I couldn't believe James is 33.
I think David Seaman has made the right decision, probably a few seasons to late but he has called it right in the end.
Yeah, he's called it just at the right time.
He should have retired last season.

He should have retired after last season.
But David James is an awful keeper. I really have lost count of the amount of goals he is responsible for. I was hoping that playing for West Ham would force Sven to look at Robinson or Kirkland or someone else but i doubt he will now.

Richard Dunne and James in the same team, now that should be a laugh. :D

I watched him for a number of years at villa and he is capable of being unbeatable. unfortunately, the calamity knickname didn't come about without reason

Seaman :notworthy
Class player
:notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy
Just read this on BBC after hearing about his injury and James talking to the club....
One of the best Goalies in recent years - not only for club (being a biased Gooner) but also an ambassador for country who has pulled off some amazing saves and kept us in many a game
Maybe should have called it a day at the end of last season with an FA Cup medal (and what a last minute save!) but still kept on performing well and is sad news to the football world that he is retiring - though hoping he will take a coaching job and take over from Bob eventually :)
The last of the big Arsenal defence I remember growing up watching retires...its a sad day :(
Best of luck Dave, we salute u
A gentleman who will do well on They Think It's All Over and in TV in general.
Wish he would cut that stupid hair though. :|

He's crap on TTIAO imo.
A good goalie who made some great saves, but far too many clangers to go down as a great.
Should have retired earlier, and not had his career be tainted by making even more errors, or having played for citeh.

An awful keeper?
How much have you seen him play then? Obviously not much over the last two and a half seasons.
Considering he has played behind edit poor defences, he had played very well for West Ham.
Makes me laugh people still slag him off because of the clangers he dropped at Liverpool five years ago
Have a read of what the T&Cs (http://thedvdforums.com) say about swearing.

It's just lazy journos, who wanted to give Seaman a hard time, because that's what the British gutter press does best, "build 'em up, knock 'em down mentality" :nono:
Just a thought why the citeh, what's that all about

James has been excellent between the sticks for us and I am greatly concerned that Bywater just won't be up to it, especially with that poor imitation of a defence.
It is a little sad to see "spunky" retire but he has had a fantastic career and it will come to us all eventually...

Shame Seaman left it so late to make the right descision.
He's been fantastic over the years but this season has been nothing short of embarrassing.

he was a quality goalkeeper, i don't blame him for leaving it so late to retire. he might have done some mistakes, but which goalie hasn't and he has made some great saves which a lot of goalies only dream about, arsenal v sheff u springs to mind

He made a fair amount of mistakes in goal for City. Seemed a bit slow off the mark. It didn't help that the defence is less than water tight. I haven't been to matches or anything, but everytime I have seen a game or highlights on TV, Seaman definitely seemed very slow to react. Should have retired last season after the FA Cup win, which would have ensured finishing his playing career on a very high note. :)

Totally agree!!
Someone mentioned his save against Sheff Utd, that was last year.
Not having a pop at him for nowt, i think he's been great over the years. This year has been painful to watch.
Similar to watching highlights of Paul Gascoigne at that Chinese Team. When a player has been great, it's awful to see.
Other players who have played on too late:
Ince (Wolves)
Mancini (at Leicester - Anyone remember?)
Gascoigne (A Chinese Team)
Shilton (For England)
Waddle (Bradford and Non League Teams)
