Disc 1 only. Disc 2 doesn't have RCE on it. Columbia are obviously doing RCE on all their titles again.
BTW The transfer on Final Fantasy is probably the best I've ever seen!

Well thats probably because it's directly from the computer and not film transfer, I think

Yes, but it's still the best I've ever seen.:)

It does not mention on the play247 site that it is RCE nor in the review at the Digital Bits
more help required.....

I'm gonna be daring here. I thought the transfer was good but I'm sure I saw a bit of grain in places? Unless thats the effect so it looks more life like.
Personally I thought Toy Story had a much better picture. Dont get me wrong FF looked amazing but as I said, the grain (effect?) put me off in a couple of places.

It looks as if the grain/dust was added for a realism effect in certain scenes. ie. Where you have spaceships taking off/landing and where there is strong fog.
I guess it is impossible for the actual film to have 'real' grain as it was a digital to digital transfer,
Yes the disc is definately RCE encoded, I checked mine this morning.

Thats what I was thinking.
A bit off topic but I didn't think it was worth starting another topic about: there are five Easter Eggs on disc 2 that I've found...
1. Highlight Play Documentary press left, up, then Enter.
2. Highlight Highlights Menu then press right, down, then Enter.
3. In the Highlights Menu, go to Character Files, highlight the up arrow, press right, left, then Enter.
4. In the Highlights Menu, go to Vehicle Scale Comparisons, highlight the up arrow again, press right, right, then Enter.
5. In the Highlights Menu, go to DVD-Rom Content, highlight the up arrow symbol again, press up, right, then Enter.
Also don't forget to check out the Thriller music video which is the little box below DVD-Rom Content option. Not really an Easter Egg though.
I've saved the best for last though. On disc 1 go to Special Features and then DVD-Rom Content. Press up, up and then Enter (so to speak). ;)
I suspect some of these Easter Eggs are part of the DVD-Rom Content.

Any word on the contents of the R2 disc?

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!
I ordered it yesterday and I've really been looking forward to it, time for a new DVD player I guess (or I suppose I could watch it on the PC)
My copy arrived today and won't play on my Sony 535 (Techtronics Mod) :(
Annoyed as Play made no mention of RCE on the web site...
I wonder if they'll take it back

The disc was not described as RCE so you bought it in good faith as they have not described the disk correctly they should take it back.
At least I hope that is the case if mine does not work, Pioneer 717 if anyones knows whether it works or not before I try.

To play RCE discs on most 717's (like mine) you need to put a normal R1 disc in first, then put in the RCE encoded disc... always works :)

I had the same problem on my Techtronics Sony 725 - you have to manually change the region code - look in the Mod manual to see how to do so. It does work - just have to enter a few keystrokes.

To get RCE discs to work on my Sony, i stick in the DVD put the player into stand-by mode press 1 then enter followed by play and Bob' yer uncle. :)

Disc 1 won't play on my Upgrade Heaven flash modded Toshiba SD-110E. I
get the dreaded world map RCE frame. :(
I'm off now to Upgrade Heaven to check that feature table again. I
could've sworn it indicated RCE was defeated. Isn't CTHD R1 RCE
encoded? It plays fine.
Anyone know if the Matsui DVD110 can can play RCE discs?
My fingers are crossed...

Just checked the product description for the Toshiba SD110E over at
Upgrade Heaven and it does indicate RCE compatability so i've sent
them an email.

Tosh SD200e with sprinter chip from Upgrade heaven wont play it either. Anyone know of any keystrokes you have to manually put in to make the toash play in r1 mode?
Does anyone know of a good site that lists player compatability with RCE discs. I have three multi region players, so there is a good chance one of them can play it. But it would be good to look and check before hand.

Ok, go here:
http://www.dvdtalk.com/rce.html
for some workarounds. My sprinter chipped Tosh200 now plays it fine, watching it now. No menu so no disc1 extras but the film runs perfectly.
Gotta say the quality of the animation is gobsmacking.
Thanks for the links guys it looks like at least one of my players will play RCE. My trusty Sammy 807, it's getting a little saggy around the edges but it was my first player....aaahhh bless.
Thanks again:D

Yeah, same with my Pioneer DV-626D. It does everything... including disabling Macrovision :D :D

Just got the following from Upgrade Heaven support.
"Its the same as any other vendors mod, due to the design of the player -
insert a "normal" r1 disc, let the unit come up with "play", then eject and
insert the RCE disc. Problem should be solved, as this works on all other R1
discs (we`ve not yet had the disc in to confirm, but all other RCE discs are
fine, and if it is a RCE disc, the above will sort it!).
Hope that helps.
"
Looks like it's Final Fantasy tonight!
Notch another big thumbs up to UGH's support. :)

The swap discs to beat RCE feature works! Happy, happy, joy, joy!
Well, neither work on my richer sounds mutiregion 725d, manual setting, auto setting, disk swaps the lot.
Its driving me mad.

I got the best multiregion player EVER! There was so much buzz around it when it started to spread in US and Canada, I got it and couldn't be happier, not only it has all the features of my R1 only sony, like DTS/DD decoders, progressive and with all the optical/Svideo etc outputs, but it has a built in NTSC to Pal and back converter with 5 video filters and zoom, move the image anywhere, x/y adjustments, etc, all for the price of what a separate and always problematic external pal converter costs. Malata N996, check it out here:
http://www.avdeals.com/malata_dvd.htm
Played any and every disc from 5 regions that I've tried, even all RCE ones, I've just recieved my FF today and tried it now seeing this thread, and it works flawlessly also, while the player is set to R0 might I add! This player eats VCD/SVCD & MP3, even if they are burned on crappiest cheapest silver CDRs, and all DVDs and CDs of course.
RCE and Region Code are not in my vocabulary anymore! :D
I recieved FF today and had to try it on all my players to see if it would work. To my surprise it played superbly on ALL three. I couldn't believe it. Three different players and it plays on all of them. Needless to say i'm very chuffed.:D :D

Blast! My order was dispatched yesterday and I have a Tosh SD-9000. Anybody know if the RCE can be overriden on the Tosh? I managed with Hollow Man but the extras were a bit of a nightmare to access.

I have a Sony 725D with only an auto mod by Link Electronics.
If you haven't already tried this, have a go and see if it works. I've just tested all the chapters on mine and it's ok:-
When the world RCE map comes up press program and just program Title 01 and then all the chapters in sequence up to 28.
01-01
01-02
01-03
etc etc
I was actually surprised it worked because early Sony auto only mods weren't supposed to.I didn't bother investigating further with menu etc.
Nice one ValeMort - that works, at least I can watch the film now !!
Its supposed to be a manual mod as well though, so I'll try it on my mates 725D, and then shout at Richer.

On my PC with PowerDVD 3.0 and DVD Region Killer it runs fine without any adjustments. On my Pioneer DV-626D (multiregion) it is necessary to put a normal R1 disc in and let it play before Final Fantasy will work.
