I have the original "Kubrick Collection" of this film, and was wondering if anyone would know if it would be worth while upgrading to the "Remastered Kubrick Collection" version?

Only difference that I can see, is the 5.1 sound mix. I also noticed that there is a R2 Full Metal Jacket Box Set due for release soon, but I cant see many extras in that either, apart from the CD soundtrack, and 35mm film frame, (whatever that is?).

I would love to see either a "making of" for this film, if it even exists, or some behind the scenes footage, interveiws ect....

Dosnt look like its on the cards though. :(

The new transfer is vastly superior to the original, which alone makes it worth upgrading - the original was an unforgivably slapdash rush job, while the new remasters were personally supervised by Kubrick's former PA Leon Vitali and sourced from the finest available materials. In terms of picture quality, there's absolutely no contest.

There's not much point getting excited about a 5.1 soundtrack, though - the differences between it and the mono original are very subtle, and the remix on the whole respects the feel of the original.

I'm not an expert on picture quality and that stuff, but I did see a significant improvement over the two versions -- as MB said :)

As for behind the scenes stuff, it's chapter on the Life In Pictures documentary isn't too bad (and the doc as a whole is very good...), but I don't expect you'd want to buy the new set just to get it (do Play do it separately? Or am I imagining things?)
