I have a Yamaha HTR-5540RDS amplifier, I noticed on the back of the amp yellow sockets, I know red and white are audio and yellow is video, so does that mean I can run my DVD player, sky ertc... on my amp, for the sound and picture?

Whilst your here, how would you set up this lot, cos my set up is not ideal.

TV 2 scarts
amp
sky
dvd player
video
Gamecube

Cos I have my DVD player running through my video :nuts:

My Sony amp has S-Video inputs and outputs. So I connect my DVD player to the S-Video on the Amp and then Out to my TV. Then when I select DVD on my amp, the picture and sound all come through. I cant remember how many inputs it has??

Forgot to mention that my DVD player has digital out cable into the amp.

You can buy SCART to composite convertors.. which would give you the yellow, red and white phono connectors.

To be honest, I've always thought that putting anything in the way of your video signal - such as an amp - would degrade the signal slightly, so I have never advised such connections. All my videos signals go from source to display directly.

Trouble is, I have 2 scarts on my TV

And all this equipment have scarts

VCR
SKY BOX
DVD PLAYER
GC

4 scarts required, my DVD runs through my sky, and my sky runs through my VCR at the moment. And my GC goes into the 2nd socket.

I wouldn't use the yellow composite connectors if I were you - it's the worst of the video cabling standards.

You could buy a SCART switcher box.. umm.. I got one from Lektropaks.. 3 into 1.. RGB pass-through... no more than £15 I think.

I have a very similar set up to you (pics on the HC setup thread).

I wired it thus:-

DVD in to Yamaha Amp using S-Vhs for pic and optical for the audio.

Sky box video is Scart in to the RGB enabled socket on tv. Audio is via phono outs to the amp. Seperate scart cable to the VCR for taping.

GC and VCR both go in to a Scart splitter which then feeds socket 2 on the telly. Only the GC video goes to the scart, the audio leads diverted to the Yamaha amp. VCR audio out via 2 phonos to the amp as well.

All works a treat.

It can all get very complicated, I have to use my Amp's video pass through because my Plasma screen simply doesn't have enough connections.

I have a Panny 6 with a built in VGA 15pin port which will accept both RGB and Component signals.

I also have an extra terminal board which is for Component inputs.

My system is set up thus:

PS2 -> Sky+ ->Pioneer 656a DVD Player ->JSTech RGBtoYUV Convertor -> Component Terminal board.

The Sky+ box and DVD Player both allow for RGB passthrough and so I get an RGB picture on all 3 devices which gets converted to Component and the picture looks wonderful

Xbox (Component)-> Amp + Gamecube (Component)-> Amp
Amp -> VGA Port

This is achieved using a simple lead which has component connections one end and and a VGA connector on the other.

Did anyone understand that?
