In the latest Buffy mag, it reports that David Boreanaz is considering an offer to star in director Darren Aronofsky's prposed film which will be titled Batman: Year One.

I think he could be a good Batman, though thank god it looks like they are getting rid of Joel Schumacher.

Apparently there are four Batman projects being developed according to Comics International.

There is the Batman: Year One project as you highlighted which is an adaption of Frank Miller's Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. And yes Darren Aronofsky of Pi and Requiem for a Dream fame is co-writing an adaption with Frank Miller. According to CI the director is looking to cast Jude Law as Batman.

The second and most less likely is a live action version of the animated Batman Beyond.

The third is the World's Finest movie which has Batman and Superman.Kevin Walker who wrote the screenplay for Se7en and Sleepy Hollow has been hired to write. Wolfgang Peterson, The Perfect Storm, is attached to direct and apparently considering George Clooney to play Batman again. Nicolas Cage was supposed to play Superman in the postponed new Superman movie.

The fourth is a proposed Catwoman film. A sequel of sorts to Batman Returns. The idea is to make Catwoman like the Crow franchise and have different women taking up the mantle of Catwoman to avenge some wrong doing.

Like I said this is all reported in Comics International September edition and maybe take some with a pinch of salt but there's some interesting idea's.

is this a franchise that can endure any more sequels? The last 2 were pretty shoddy.

If they're good movies, why not? For me, Batman Returns is the best comic-book movie I've ever seen, and one of my most favourite films. Just becuase a film is a sequel or part of a franchise doesn't inherently mean that it's a bad film - the fact that it's a bad film does (see Superman 4, Batman & Robin).

There are loads of good comic book movies out there (Blade, Batman/Returns, Superman/II, X-Men was pretty good, Conan The Barbarian, Barbarella, Mystery Men was not bad), with more on the way that look good (Ghost World, Blade 2 [Guillermo del Toro!!!] Spiderman)

A franchise can sustain as long as it likes, as long as there is an audience. There will always be an audience if the films are good.

More comic related films....

Hellboy Guillermo del Toro directing, possibly Vin Diesel as Hellboy.

Blade 3 is being developed and written by David Goyer even though Blade 2 is not out till March.

Ghost Rider Nick Cage as Ghost Rider but directorless at the moment.

Chasing Amy 2 Slightly comic related as Kevin Smith now writes comics. Rumoured that Ben Affleck, Jason Lee and Joey Lauren Adams to reunite in a movie about Smith's experiences as a father.

Road to Peridition Tom Hanks mob flick.

plus more I can't remember.

I completely forgot to add From Hell (which looks excellent from the pedigree of those involved, the source material amd the trailer) and The Incredible Hulk - Ang Lee directs Eric Bana from Chopper as Bruce Banner!

Don't forget John Woo doing Teenage Mutant NINJA Turtles!

Deaks.

PS. I hated Batman Returns, didn't much care for Batman but LOVE the last two. Just the kind of Batman films I wanted to see!

Oh yeah, completely forgot about From Hell. The trailer looks great although I can't help thinking of Sleepy Hollow when I see it. And I don't think it's just because Johnny Depp is in both.

I heard that Christian Bale of American Psycho is first in line for the Year One project.

I think that you'll find that this is actually based on Batman:Year One, by Frank Miller. :) (written well after Dark Night Returns, and less.....well dark I guess).

Don't forget The Crow.

I thought Batman Forever was great. I was only a wee bairn when I saw it, but I thought it was jolly exciting.

I must say I'm excited by the prospect of Darren Aronofsky directing Year One. Is he signed up to do the usual PG-13, or is an R rated Batman a possibility, seeing how they're looking to relaunch the franchise?

As a HUGE Batman fan I feel that David Boreanaz would be a great person to play the Darknight Detective !! He has the menace for the man behind he mask and also the charisma for Batmans alter-ego.

HOWEVER I feel that BATMAN : YEAR ONE should be done as more of a TV series type thing along the lines of LOIS AND CLARK of a few years ago. The Batman story is far too good and far too big to fit neatly into 90 minutes of film, so much is missed and so much is lost.

I have been reading the comics for years and even I have to admit that as good as he is, he is a complex character and so are all the supporting characters.

A series could start at year one and follow his early attempts and try to get into his mind and just think were you could be eight seasons in !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Warners did infact commision a script for a tv show about the pre Batman Bruce Wayne. It was written by the fella who co-wrote The Iron Giant and aparantly it was good, damn good.

But the suits went to a new teenage Superman show called 'Smallville' which is/as just started in the states.
