Hi all.

Gee that was a dull chat - barely a single title mentioned interested me!

anyway, here is a report of what was mentioned....if something you're interested in isn't here its because it either wasn't brought up, was flat out a no go on DVD (and a few titles were!) or was mentioned in the 4mins I missed while i got disconnected :)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
General stuff.

Which titles get OAR? Title-by-title decision, most of the time balancing the disires of the audience and the filmmaker as best as can be reconciled.

Snappers will remain for a while, though some titles will be an exception (Citizen Kane, Doctor Zhivago and other event titles)

Titles...

Bladerunner was mentioned, working with Ridley Scott for 2002 release.

V: Final Battle = Summer 2002
V: The Series = someimte in the future after Final Battle

TV Series Best ofs - Certain series under consideration for full season releases
South Park - compilations reflect Comedy Centrals choice - Warner will provide CC with a transcript of the chat to show fans want full seasons releases

Twin Peaks TV Pilot - Look into it regarding release/inclusion of original ending (or something like that)

Batman & Mr.Freeze: Subzero, Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker Original Cut, Batman/Superman Movie and BAtman Animated Series - all in Family Groups plans for next year

Superman released in original state - only if Richard Donner wants it that way of which there is no indication he does

Iron Giant SE - 2nd half 2002

Robin Hood Prince of Thieves - Morgan Creek working on SE for 2002

Babylon 5 Series hopes - all down to performance of the December release, if it doesn't sell well you won't get anymore

Goodfellas & Mean Streets - looking for Scorcese participation, 2002
Once Upon A Time in America - producer is also working with them, 2003

RKO Film Library - Swing Time and Top Hat prioritized for restoration, quick DVD release once complete. the rest will take a long time.

Amadeus & One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest getting RSDL release/possibly new transfers/extras

The Adventures of Robin Hood - $250,000 restoration, 2003 release on 65th anniversary

Mildred Pierce - currently undergoing a 'stunning restoration from the original nitrate camera negative so please buy Little Women and Now Voyager when they arrive in a couple of weeks so you can 1) glory in the beauty of expert vintage B&W restoration and 2) preview what Mildred will look like'.

Online events (like Matrix/Three Kings - future ones include Matrix Revisited and something inolving Oliver Stone and JFK (plus others not yet known).

Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, House of Wax, Meet me in St.Louis, Unforgiven are all in varying stages of remastering/restoring.

Colour Purple SE - fabulous apparently with participation by all principals, 2002.

Nightbreed Dir Cut - Morgan Creek are handling, 2002.

Strange Brew - summer 2002

Beyond Rangoon/Having a Wild Weekend - low prospects on DVD. Zabriskie Point needs a re-transfer and possible restoration. The sheltering sky is being worked on for possible 2002 release.

Clash of the Titans - Summer 2002

Stephen Kings IT - needs remastering, possible 2002 release

Lots of great films there - "Klute", "The Bad And The Beautiful", "Now Voyager", "Mildred Pierce", "Mean Streets", "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore", "McCabe and Mrs Miller", "She Wore A Yellow Ribbon", "The Women", "Top Hat", "Goodfellas", "Meet Me In St.Louis", "Unforgiven", "Goodfellas".

Some of the best of American cinema in fact. Can't wait.

The Adventures of Robin Hood and Mildred Pierce ; let's hope they get the Citizen Kane treatment. I rather think She Wore a Yellow Ribbon will be, like The Searchers , a rather bare bones disk.

Still, as you say, something there for everyone.

So many films, so little time...

Well, something very much of interest which I learned from reading the chat transcript (which can be found here (http://www.hometheaterforum.com/files/warner2.txt)) is that Warner have discussed the possibility of a new cut of Superman II, most interesting...

I can highly recommend the German DVD of "She Wore A Yellow Ribbon" put out by Kinowelt (called "Der Teuffelshauptmann" in German). Picture quality is simply stunning. As an extra the DVD has an interesting 1-hr long interview with John Ford.

It looks like Warner is increasing its output of catalogue titles :) Hope they will release "Dial M For Murder" and not just consider it.
Two more years waiting for "Adventures Of Robin Hood" :(

I'm suprised nobody asked about my favourite movie "What's up doc?".
There's usually somebody asking about it every month on the HTF.
Oh well, maybe next year if I'm lucky...:(

 woo-hoo!!! "for a while" .... ! i can't believe no-one else has commented on this yet. that is such an improvement on warner's usual position of "we're not even discussing this topic" (followed by them packing up and leaving)! also, i hope "event titles" includes blade runner and any new SE of goodfellas.

thanks for posting the transcript kanedaa - great work and sweet news!

I thought Dial M was already undergoing some restoration work? I'd love to see that and To Catch a Thief find their way onto DVD.

I am definatly getting the Babylon 5 disc that is coming out this year then, and I am glad they are releasing the second half of V it really didn't make sense to release the first half and not the second. As for the series I don't think I will bother

I'm also looking forward to the special editions of Mean Streets and Goodfellas but the "looking for Scorcese participation" comment worries me slightly, I hope they pin him down pretty soon!

Also, National Lampoon's European Vacation = "vintage title". :D
