View Full Version : oh dear snakes being censored
check out dvdfile.com for details on what MGM are doing to the special edition re-release of escape from new york. Personally I think they're going a bit overboard and I'm sure they'll be a lot of fans unhappy at the decision
I can understand removing certain scenes to a certain extent but when they start using cgi on actors mouths to cover the new dubbed dialogue I think thats going too far. Surely a better idea than *******ising films like this is to have a sticker similar to the parental guidance warning people that they may find content offensive due to 9/11.

I just don't know why they need to waste time on this kind of stuff seeing as the film is coming out on DVD for let's face it, a cult audience.
The Americans seem to have taken a U-turn in term of censorship in the last year, and I think it's going to get worse.

the irony is that all polling data in the states is showing that virtually all americans are outraged by what hollywood has been doing to its movies and tv shows in the wake of september 11th. there is no public support for what the studios are doing, which makes it even more ludicrous than it already is. it's not surprising people feel this way when removing shots of the twin towers or 'similar' events in movies are tantamount to pretending they never existed and admitting defeat to terrorism. hardly the prevailing mood over there right now.

Yeah I know, totally silly and unnecessary censoring to the level of stupidity. Plus whats the point in cutting out prez's plane crash when there was no plane crash filmed at all, it quickly cuts to a pre-historic computer graphics monitor with a dot going into a bunch of other dots and then kind of blinking down heh  :D
Especially when snake's landing on top of WTC and a shootout on top of it later on will be left supposedly.
Also, I want my Sidewalks of NY comedy and Schwarzenegger's Collateral Damage now!
If I was in charge I would have released it on the scheduled date, maybe a couple weeks later as with Training Day so that marketing department could put TV spots on the air, and then make twice the expected/projected gross on the film as more people would go see an american firefighter kick terrorist ass and relate and even cheer, I'm sure.
Cutting WTC and everything related out from everything is living in denial.

Oh YES! Whew...:
Following the rapid spread of the news yesterday regarding possible digital alterations to the upcoming DVD special edition of John Carpenter's Escape From New York (see yesterday's news below), MGM has responded to the story and stated that it is not true. According to an MGM spokesperson, "We have no plans nor did we ever have any plans" to alter or change Escape From New York in any form. Without any sort of confirm from the offices of John Carpenter on his purported comments, we can hopefully chalk this one up to another Internet rumor...
Good! We're not gona get a butchered SE then, as I was gona just keep watching the current edition and SE just for..uh SE features.
