I want to get this for my pld lady for an xmas pressie. Dvd Crave say available from 8/12 (R4) and all other sites have release of 18/12(R1).

So do i order from dvd crave and will it arrive by xmas or order r1 and hope that arrives (within a week!!) for xmas.

Will one version be better than the other. Help!!

i think so long as you pre-order them whichever region you go for will arrive in time for xmas. only ordered from down under once and the discs arrivced within a week. if you order the region 1 from ringos (see top-quality banner above) you'll probably have it at least a week early so you'll be safe as houses.

as for differences, apart from the release dates the only supposed difference so far is that some sources are reporting that the region 1 disc will feature a DTS soundtrack. i'd also imagine the packaging will be different - dual-amaray for r4 and 'custom' cardboard for r1 (my guess). the r4 will also work out cheaper (about £14 inc. postage) but it's down to personal preference. for example, it's only a matter of time before someone posts on here telling you that it has to be the r4 because of its allegedly superior PAL picture.

your choice. personally, i'm going for the region 1 because i think i'll prefer the packaging, i want the extra DTS track and i don't want to risk PAL-speedup on a movie that features so much music.

bear in mind it's near christmas when the mail system is in overlaod so there may be delays from abroad. I've ordered the R4, it's cheaper, comes out earlier and there is a possibilty of a DTS track because Lurmann holds a lot of sway with fox in aussie land and it was a huge hit there.

but I could be wrong

EzyDVD lists it as released 05/11 or (11/05 US format date).

Always received orders in less than a week (Oz to UK) which is why I ordered R4: sure to get it by Xmas and cheaper price.
The DTS might be on the R4, it's just not yet confirmed.

there was a bit of discussion over here (http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=24477) about luhrmann and what he's able to swing with fox in australia. not too sure myself, i think studios do whatever they like except in very rare circumstances (e.g. lucasfilm - but fox have no choice there with only distribution rights, they'd even mess lucas around if only they could). that said, i can see it turning out that all the different regions get the same features on the discs. so it'll be back down to personal preference and how long you can wait.

Yeh - up to you mate. As I said in the other thread though, if you pre-order from EzyDVD you'll get an exclusive making of disc effectively turning it into a 3 disc set....
