I heard that there will be a some kind of new release of pulp fiction with loads of extras in jan 2002, does anyone know if this is for certain because i don't want to wait that long and hear that its been scraped or delayed again, i also saw the canada version of it on play247 for about 16 quid with deleted scenes, has anyone got this version and if so are the extras any good???

There will be a release next year (and Tarantino is supposedly having some involvment), Miramax have confirmed it, but i dunno about January.

At the moment the best version to get is the uncut R4 version, as it has all the features you mention plus an anamorphic PAL picture. Think it's cheaper than 16 quid too.

Your move. :)

this is what some bloke said about the new edition on imdb.com, don't know if this will be true

PULP FICTION: ULTIMATE EDITION DVD will come out in 2002 from Miramax.
it'll be the following...

*wide-screen
*2 - discs
* 3 Audio commentaries: (1) Samuel L. Jackson and John Travolta
(2) Quentin Tarantino, Harvey Keitel, and Roger Avary
(3) critic Roger Ebert
*trailers - Pulp Fiction trailer and other Miramax stuff, like CLERKS, MALLRATS, FOUR ROOMS, JACKIE BROWN, and more.
*Cast/crew full-length bios and filmographies.
*Original featurette
*Critic Roger Ebert's review
*The script
*Production Notes
*Trivial game(????)
*Retrospective documentary
*Interview with Quentin Tarantino
*Deleted scenes - Either seperate with tarantino commentayr on why they were cut, or are seamlessly re-edited into the film, like the DIE HARD SE DVD did.
*Some or all of the 4-minute skits on SNL that made fun of PULP FICTION(where Norm McDonald plays Tarantino).
and some other stuff.

I've avoided buying PF for over two years, because even the R4 version wasn't decent enough to replace my 2 vhs copies.

Should this special edition thats alleged to come out have the above extras then it will certainly be on my shopping list, but I'm cynical about this release.

Don't know why though

I really hope those specs are accurate, but having said that "some bloke on IMDB" is hardly what you'd call an authoritative sorce....

Here's hoping :D

Perhaps if the PF disc really does happen, we might finally see the Reservoir Dogs SE too... the one that Tarantino promised for laserdisc about 6-7 years ago and then decided he didn't want to do... :(

On the R4 Special Edition Quentin Tarantino says how stupid he thinks Director's Cuts are - so I doubt the scenes will be integrated into the movie. He explicitly says that the released version is the Director's Cut.
He even makes fun of directors who rerelease movies as Director's Cuts.

I WANT MY PULP FICTION! Check DVDStreet at regular intervals over the next months as they have this listed (no details on extras though) for the first of January. *Trivial game(????) This wouldn't surprise me as it was on the R4 SE.*Deleted scenes - Either seperate with tarantino commentayr on why they were cut, or are seamlessly re-edited into the film, like the DIE HARD SE DVD did. These are on all SE releases of the video/they're on the R4 DVD. He does mention this in the FDTD commentary - the way he says it, this doesn't look likely:( . I love Pulp Fic---- "Oh I'm sorry did I break you're concentration?"

EDIT - Spoiler Tags corrected.

As for Reservoir Dogs, I noticed it said on the back of the new action figures something along the lines of "Watch out for the 10th anniversary special edition DVD coming in January 2002".

Tarantino may well have had the right to the final cut in his films, but unfortunately quite a few other directors may not (thanks to the Studios, Censorship etc.) But I'd partly agree with him in that some so-called "Director's Cuts" are nothing more than cynical ploys of making more money.
