Not a film/feature comparison but a sound comparison.

I picked up the Legacy box set on Sunday and have started to watch them all in order. I watched Aliens last night and, having the R1 disc already, I'm sure I noticed that the voices are at a slightly higher pitch on the R2 disc. Paul Reiser sounds almost pre-pubescent! :D

I vaguely remember reading something on the forum that explained this happens in converting a film from one format to another = NTSC to PAL or vice versa because it's sped up/slowed down.

Can someone please remind me, I can't remember it. (Or let me know if I've just got a dodgy disc).

Cheers. :)

PAL runs 4% faster than NTSC due to the difference in frame rate - PAL 25fps vs NTSC 24fps - I think that's right.

I've never noticed it to be honest, although I can see 3:2 pulldown very clearly on slow panning shots. :(

I had a loan of the R1 Aliens up until i got the R2 box, and to me there was a world of difference between the picture quality of the two.

The R2 was far clearer, with much less smearing on the foggy scenes. The R1 looked like it had been shot throgh a pair of womens tights!

nah, PAL = 25fps and NTSC = 29fps..

24 would be faster ;)

I have R1 aliens and one good point is, it has a better cover - diff pic!!

But i would say that R2 picture is slightly better.

But basically the film is not a great transfer anyway, i doubt the orig. print looks amazing. It was a fairly low budget film.

Anyway R1 for £7.00 s/h so I aint complaining.
