View Full Version : Evil Dead 2 Region 2 Question
Hey all,
I've just pre-ordered the region 2 Evil Dead 2 from play247, which claims to have commentary. Its released next week. Anyone have any more info on this one? Is it the best one to get?
Cheers,
Dan.
wellllll, depends.
if you want a matted anamorphic 1.85:1 picture with DTS, then get the R2 version.
if you want an open matt 1.33:1 picture and an behind-the-scenes extra, then get the R1 Elite version.
Or you can wait until the Anchor Bay Book Of the Dead edition comes out early next year... dunno what's gonna be on it though.
hmm, i get the feeling i've answered this question before
ah, pfft, ok.. so i can't read. Thought you meant Evil Dead. Blame it on the coffee. :D

Hello
unlike him up there I haven had my cofee this morning so I should be able to attempt an answer
I hear it will be the commentary from the US Evil Dead 2 disc which is a MUST OWN commentary and very very funny it also has the making of featurette from the US disc , in fact I think it has everything but the photo gallery although I dont see why they would leave the gallery out .
So in all a good year for UK Evil Dead fans ,
Shame I brought the US disc or I would be in line to buy this new one too

The Evil Dean crawled out of his shelter after sensing another Evil Dead thread and cleared everything up. :p
Whos doing the commentary on ED2? I got a it fed up with Bruce Campbell on his own for ED1, hes much better when Raimi is with him.
yeah, it's the same commentary as the R1 version - Bruce, Sam, co-writer Scott Speigel and FX man Greg Nicotero.
it's still one of the funniest commentaries i've got on dvd. :)

woh, didnt know ED2 is getting a R2 release.
any plans to release AOD ?
i havent seen any of them.
is it ok to watch ED2 before ED1 ?
is it worth getting both ED1 and 2, isnt 2 a pseudo remake of 1 ?

I read here (somewhere) that the 2 disc edition was planned for release on R2 (much like the recent Halloween), but can't actually find any evidence to support that claim

It's definitely worth getting both. Reviewers keep saying that ED2 is a remake of ED1, I presume they've never seen both films as ED2 is clearly not a remake. Raimi couldn't get hold of ED1's final scenes, so he had to remake a brief 15min summary of the 1st film. This was because the 1st one was a cult film, so only a couple of million people had seen it, whereas the sequal was going straight for the mainstream audiences, so they needed to know what happened in the 1st.

Whats the verdict on this R2 Evil Dead 2 release then? Worth getting?
I take it this is not from Anchor Bay? If not surely AB will be releasing a R2 version as well? Will this have the same commentary as above mentioned version?

Or, if you wait a few months, you could get the Evil Dead box-set from Anchor Bay in the US. It's rumoured to have the special editions of all three 'Dead' movies (without the Director's Cut of 'Army', I guess), plus a fourth disc packed with yet more extras. Can't wait personally, but I'll never sell my AOD two-discer!

Bought this momentum disc today and I'm very impressed.
for a start it is now uncut (especially useful as the british censor cut is mentioned in the commentary)
For the record, it was a shot of Ash getting kicked in the head after he had been beaten unconscious.
It's an anamorphic picture (ratio 1.85:1) and presented in 5.1 digital sound (although I only have humble pro-logic, at the moment I can't comment) The origial film was only in mono (as was the original elite laser disc, of which this seems to be a virtual clone)
the picture seems as good as you're going to get considering the source material.
You also have the trailer, a "making of" documentary and the commentary (as in the US disc).
All this as well as a cool animated menu (flying around the house in the woods) and its cheap, too!
If you like the series, or are curious having never seen the film - I recommend you buy it straight away.
So is the 'Making of....' on the R2 release the same as the one ('The Gore the Merrier') on the Anchor Bay Ltd Edition Tin released a while back?
Basically, is the new R2 release identical to the AB tin?

the making of feature is subtitled "the gore the merrier" and runs a touch under 32 minutes.
I assume it is the same as was included on the anchor bay release, but as I never bought that particular disc (glad now) I can't confirm if it is exactly the same.
so er.. is this R2 missing the photo gallery that was on the AB tin then? oh, and the Hail to the King psx game preview?
ok, maybe i'm just being petty :D

I understood that the photo gallery was a feature on the disc, rather than on the tin.
or am I just being petty? :D
(only £11.99 from ASDA kids, you know it makes sense)
