I watched this last night on cable and although I have seen it before I was 'really' watching last night.

I know that when this movie first came out it received a fair amount of criticism, but I really can't understand why.

I thought it was a gripping story and although dealing with a pretty bizarre subject matter it still managed to be believable, thanks no doubt to the fantastic acting from Claire Forlani, Anthony Hopkins and Brad Pitt. The whole idea (and I wont ruin it for those who haven't seen it) is just so interesting that the nigh on three hours of the movie just flew by.

(I find it hard to fault Brad Pitt, I think he's one hell of an actor and he has a great screen presence).

The movie was sad but gave me a strange sense of optimism. The score was beautiful and I really really enjoyed watching it.

Plus Claire Forlani just makes you fall in love with her, she's just far far too sexy (and British too :)).

I'm going to be on the lookout for the 2 Disk set. (Anyone able to suggest where I'll find it for a good price?)

I don't really know why I'm posting about it, perhaps it's because I want to know if what other people thought, but mainly because I'm still going over it in my head now... I enjoyed it so much more on the second viewing... A top movie.

What happened to Martin Brest the Director of this movie? This seemed like some really good work and I would like to see some of his other movies, but there doesn't seem to be anything in the pipeline..

I really like Meet Joe Black too. It's one of the only films that manages to bring a tear to my eye.

I thought Thomas Newman's score was superb and very fitting. My wife and I used some of the music at our wedding ceremony. :)

My g/f dragged me to this when it was in the cinema and we both thought it was really good. I was surprised about the level of criticism - but I do know some people who were put off by the length of the film.

I saw this at the cinema. Thought the story concept was good and I like the cast. But it was about 90 minutes too long - ie would have made a nice, tight, gripping film if it had run for about 90 minutes, not the 180 (ish) that it does last.

Yeah I know what you mean about it dragging, although it didnt bother me I can see why some might get a little bored, I think that the whole business merger part of the movie was the least interesting.

The most compelling aspect of the movie was the emotions and feelings that the characters had... Not the sub plot...

But I still enjoyed it and didnt find myself looking at the clock at all..

Watched half and taped half last night. Brad Pitt certainly wouldn't win an oscar for his "acting" although Claire was rather nice. Seen the first half twice now, but will get around to watching the rest.
It's not bad, but is a bit slow and uneventful so far.

I remember watching this on u>direct a while ago. I enjoyed the film a lot. In my opinion it's one of those movies that seem to get up the critics noses yet is a perfectly good film like Pay It Forward and Patch Adams.

Although, IMO, it was one of those films that feels 3 hours long, unlike The Green Mile, it was engaging with an interesting concept. Well acted and a great score. If you fancy an above average romance/drama give it a spin

I feel like watching it again now.

It's funny, my opinion is quite the oposite, I think Brad Pitt is an excellent actor.. I think he played the part so well.. very subtle and interesting.

I guess it's personal opinion at the end of the day. :)

I loved Meet Joe Black and even though it is a bit on the dark side I really enjoyed it.
It's one I owned on video and have not got around to replacing on dvd yet, but I will .
