Hi all. Went to see Amelie at the fliks. What a film!! Jenuet's a genius...And Amelie (Audrey tatou) Oh wow, what a delight to watch. I would have been happy just watching her sit there, doing nothing for 2 hours...

Anyway, I was looking around for an upcoming dvd version. The french amazon site has the lovely Amelie tin scheduled for a dec release. But the us and uk amazon sites only have the bog standard, normal case release. Alas, no tin. The bummer is that the french edition doesnt have subtitles.

I really want this tinset as it's got a great design, with a big picture of Amelie on the front. MMMMmmmmmmmmmmmm

So, my question is, does anyone know if there is a tin version to be released in the uk or us?

Cheers all

Chris.

I doubt it - UK companies never really put a huge amount of effort into packaging, though that's changing.

Why not buy the French tin and put the UK disc in?

Best of both...erm...countries.

yeah, i'd recommend doing this as well. i've done it a few times myself, for different reasons.

i put the UK region 2 disc of run lola run in the packaging for the original german lola rennt release (original theatrical artwork and original title being the draw! lack of english subs being a slight snag) but using a dual-amaray so as to keep the german disc too.

also, i have the canadian region 1 good will hunting (the only anamorphic version) in a US region 1 keepcase. didn't think the canadian art was quite as good (and they also didn't use the original title logo!)!! :)

...ahh... the asking price of 349,00 FRF/ 53,20 Euros (plus shipping!) seems like rather a lot to pay for what is, essentially, a biscuit tin... but, hey! what do I know?!...

. . . :( . . .

Tell me, do you eat strawberry jam on £10 notes for breakfasts? :D

lol! i wish! :D not even working at the moment having packed my last job in back in august.

good will hunting wasn't too costly - flogged the US disc in the canadian box to an unsuspecting outlet here in birmingham! though i do feel a touch of guilt if anyone bought it expecting the 16:9 canadian print!

lola rennt was dirt cheap from germany (about £10 i think), so all in won't work out any more expensive than buying a criterion disc.

hah, listen to me trying to convince myself that this sort of behaviour is both practical and affordable! :D ah .... hopelessly addicted!

No they don't! Neither Amazon.com or co.uk have this disc listed at all yet.

MMm strange. Just checked myself, and they've gone! weird, they both had ads for the normal amaray version last week.?????

Thanks for the help everyone, looks like I'll have to buy both.

Hmmm very questionable behaviour all this.

I bought the R4 Close Encounters and was well disappointed with the packaging, considered re-buying the R2 version then came to my senses and realised I could live with it.

I was in the US the other week and saw the Total Recall SE in round tin case pretty cheap. I like the film and want it on DVD so why didn't I buy it? Because of the stupid tin can it's in!! Won't fit in with all the 'normal' DVDs on my shelf.

Amaray cases all round I say ;)

OK from the horse's mouth:

The amelie tin is a limited pre-christmas release limited to 20 000 copies or something like that which is ridculously low considering the success it was.

After Christmas the DVD (it's a double BTW) will be released without the tin and the extras that came with it (OST on CD, photos of the gnome around the world, poster, and some other stills - maybe i'm forgetting something but not much) at probably a more normal price...

Of course £35 is a bit steep but guess who's got it on order :D...
A pure eveil marketing dept. ploy and I must confess I'm consciously falling for it  not that I want it for Christmas but I want that blooming tin!!!!

and having already bought the soundtrack I shoudl be equally mad of having to buy it again  should put it on sale really... original French release too ;)

Since I couldn't care less about the postcards/poster/photos but only want the film and extras, I'll wait for the normal release.

£35 is way too high a price anyway. Plus maybe the normal release will have English subtitles (even if I don't need them, my friends do).

You are a sensible chap Pegasus... Shame I'm not more like you....
I can use the usual excuse that it'll be collectible some time (but of course I won't flipping sell it!!!!)
