I'm interested when Angel moved to LA relative to the Buffy series/seasons and chronologically. Also, do the 2 series have much in common, like same characters or stories.
I'm asking this so that I would know when into Buffy to start watching that new Angel season 1 DVD set.
Please dont reveal anything important, no spoilers as I'm still on season 1 episode 7.

Lenny, Angel season 1 starts as Buffy season 4 starts - so that's where you should watch it from!

Also there are a few crossovers in Angel 1 / Buffy 4 and Angel 2 / Buffy 5, so the best way to watch is an episode of Buffy then the corresponding episode of Angel - in other words, how it was broadcast on TV!

Hope that helps!

Great, thanks a lot!
So with 3 seasons of Buffy out now, can get Angel 1 and wait for Buffy 4, and yeah you're right, better watch one episode of each after another, will be like a 48 episode season!

Tough luck for UK TV viewers as C4 has its Angel showings all over the place - as it even started showing Angel S2 alongside BBC 2's showing of Buffy S5?

I don't think C4 have shown any of Season 2? If they have then I will be mighty annoyed at missing out.

Season 2 of Angel has been and gone I'm afraid!

I thought C4 had only shown season one and weren't going to show the series at all anymore? It's been less than six months since Sky finished season 2.

It's only been on Sky so far. I've just checked the Channel 4 site and on their bulletin board they say that they have not yet scheduled Season 2.

Word of warning though.
Angel is crap with the exception of the 2 Faith Episodes.

Angel is crap with the exception of the 2 Faith Episodes. I think you're missing a "IMHO" ;). Anyway IMHO Angel is just as good as buffy, I liked the whole story of Wolfram and Hart and look forward to seeing where it goes in the next season

"IMHO" Angel is much better than Buffy. It's more adult, in that it has darker stories and messages, mainly to do with redemption, and it's far more 'cinematic' compared to Buffy. It's like watching half a movie every week. And now they're introducing tasty new totty in the form of that physicist girl. Woo Hoo!
Buffy is really for teenage girls. OK so Boreanaz may attract the same audience, but I doubt they fully appreciate the show for what it is. And the Wolfram & Hart mystery just gets more and more interesting by the week. Who are these omni-dimensional Schyster's? And what is the real plan behind their many mysterious meddlings within the mortal realm? Every week we're given a new glimpse behind the curtain, but always keep you begging for more. I've not seen a story arc like this since the mighty B5. (Whedon & co were big fans of Straczynski space saga BTW.)

:D

Your probably gonna get roasted for saying Buffy is really for teenage girls
:D

Seriously though, its insane to suggest that Angel even comes close to what Buffy has to offer.
Angel 1st and foremost lacks total direction, and always has since day 1. It appears that nobody has any idea what to do with the show, they were just so desprate to make money out of DB looks and they knew that realisticly he couldnt remain in Buffy after S3.

There's no season arc to Angel, instead it goes from 1 episode to the next seemingly trying to catch the casual viewer as opposed to the serious fan. Its fair to say you can miss 4 or 5 episodes of Angel and still catch up (something which you could never expect to do with any season of Buffy).
Angel lacks the funny lines, a likeable cast, and a thick enough plot to last 22 episodes, (lets not even mention the camp bar).

Beside's, Buffy S5 was far darker than either season of Angel.

I think Buffy is great.

But Angel is better.

IMHO Buffy is far better (and i'm not a teenage girl :D ). It has a good mix of comedy and drama and anyone who say's it's past it's best need only watch season 5, easily the best yet. With episodes like 'The Body' it's superb and the history of the characters is used to great effect throughout the season.

Angel on the other hand is ok. It tends to 'normalise' the demon behavior more than buffy in my view. Demons figting in illegal brawls and wandering around Wolfram & Hart just take away from the 'mystery' that's supposed to surround them. It happened in season 4 (that's not really a spolier is it?) but the writiers soon changed their angle.

I do agree that there is a larger storyline involved in Angel, so that's there's no season 'big bad' but more an 'ultimate big bad' for the whole series. just how bad they are is slowly being revealed and that's cool.

Summery: Buffy superb, Angel getting better but failing occasionally

So, how are the production values on Angel, do they go out on location a lot, any noticable popular places been shot, do they show LA's skyscrapers? I like when they show something close to home, makes the whole viewing experience better.

not that my knowledge of LA is any good, but i don't think so. Most of it obviously takes place at night (Angel being a vamp) and they tend to use old warehouses etc a lot because if the 'underground' nature of the nasties

there are some episodes where they go wandering about, i think they go to a university on season 2 (seen more of that than 1), but nothing too big.
