 (I think)

I have good memories of this from the first time they were shown, but I have had good memories of a number of things that turn out to be crap.

Was the first series the one with him from neighbours or him from london's burning?

 :notworthy  (and quite possibly a little bit :dork: ) i liked it and this is pretty good news imo
had him of neighbours (Craig Maclachlan(sp)) him off El Dorado (Jesse Birdsall) her off the BIll (no idea) and some other women, who's been in other things, most recently the Gala Bingo ads (all IIRC)

The woman from The Bill was Jaye Griffiths and the other was Paula Hunt. And don't forget that Craig McLachlan only did the first series before he was replaced by Steve Houghton who was by a long way a poorer Ed.

Still this is excellent news, roll on February

I think I might have got it wrong actually because according to the IMDB Craig McLachlan was in the first three series' and Steve Houghton was only in the final series, the fourth.

I guess that is one of the reasons why the show was cancelled, after all from what I can remember Steve Houghton was a poor replacement for Craig McLachlan, and why they choose to keep the character of Ed going instead of creating a new one is beyond me.

Also - didn't they finish the last episode on a cliffhanger, only for the show to be cancelled?

sounds about right, but by then it was pretty poor anyway iirc so wasnt too bothered!! might get first series if its cheap enough

Just a quick bump becuase it's released on Friday. Worryingly there have been no extra details on how many commentairies there are or to the overal qaulity of the set. Also Zetaminor now have info on season which is being released in April.

I can't quite decide whether to buy this becuase I use to love it when I was a kid but I can't actully remember if they were actully any good or if they are the type of programme that I liked then but when I see now I just cringe:confused:.

Anyway given the lack of any advertising for it I hope that the whole series does get released (mainly becuase I never saw the final epsiode:( ) and not just be stuck in eternal oblivion like the Manchild DVD series 2 appears to be.

Play have the extras down as:

Cast and Crew Biographies
Series Picture gallery
Episode Synopsis
Exclusive Audio Commentaries

Not much detail but I am not bothered as mine has been dispatched from Play. And it is released Monday 23rd not today ;)

This was good Saturday night viewing when it was originally shown, but I didn't think it held up that well when Bravo repeated it not so long ago.

I might end up getting it, but only for the right price - or if Craig McLachlan is commentating! :D

Hi All

Just went and brought Bugs Series 1 today, and apparently according to Play, there is exclusive audio commentaries, but it doesnt say this on the box, Is this a cock up on the box, and have they forgot to list them or something.
I'm hoping they are there and its just not listed, but wont know until I watch some tonight hopefully.
Maybe there was'nt time to record some for series 1, and there will be some on Series 2 prehaps????

Oh Well, hopefully I can report back tomorrow and say if they are there or not???

I remember that, where they released a negative sound to balance out the frequency of the bomb or something?

With the guard just standing there as a mass bomb exploded behind him.

It looks like it could be a mistake on Plays part because I can't see anything else other than what is listed on the back cover.

Great episode!

The Episode is called Hot Metal and is Episode 8 in Series 1, I've just watched that episode today when watching my Series 1 DVD's. Great memories watching them again.

Also these DVD's DO NOT have any exclusive Commentaries even though PLAY claim that they do. My guess is Its a Cock up from Play getting the wrong information, or they were planned and there was no time to put them on, maybe some will appear with series 2.

This was a great TV series even if the science was a bit dubious at times.

I remember a couple of episodes with this MAD "casper the ghost in the shell" type AI virus type thingie. I love the way it "grew up" as it got more advanced. hehehe. :)

Does not look like any commentaires will be included on this one either, but we can still hope. If my memory serves me correctly, series 2 was when Bugs was really at it's best.

Thanks for the reminder about Series 2, must go out and buy this soon, Going on holiday at the end of the week so will leave it till after I get back.
And yes Series 2 was when it really got at its best, I believe there are some pretty good episodes on there.

Any word on weather Series 3 and Possibly Series 4 will appear on DVD too, I know Series 4 is not going to be great because Craig McLachlan didnt appear in this but I dont think I saw all of Series 4 because didnt BBC stop it half way through??? I cant remember now, but I'm sure I never saw it to the end.

Series 3 is released at end of June, S4 probably at the end of August. The BBC did show all of S4 (at one point or another) but it ended on a cliffhanger that was never resloved:(

You think a new tv series, written by one of the best writers on tv, is going to be like a show made over 10 years ago?

I hope not, but I'm thinking more on the lines of... BBC + sci-fi(ish) in the last 10 years = :gag: (even the last few seasons of Red Dwarf). Okay Bugs isn't entirely sci-fi but it may as well be with the utterly laughable gadgets.

Nothing pointless about it, I was stating an opinion. Are we not allowed to do that now on a forum for discussion?

My point (which I didn't make at the time) is more of "why" are they releasing this on DVD when there are far better things to be releasing and the series didn't do very well.

Well when I look at the topics on view 90% of them are about things I have no interest in, 50% of which I probably actively dislike. Now I could go in, say whatever it is is crap and then say it's my opinion but there's not much point is there? Hold on, why don't we make it a rule that is a person has no interest in a film and does not care for it at all that they go into the topic, say it's crap and leave. That'll really help make the forum more interesting to read. I just took objection to the fact that there was no reason i could see that you would bother posting that and you didn't even give any reasons to back it up. This group is for discussion, if you want to start up a valid discussion on Bugs and why you feel it's not very good then that's fine and I'll discuss but coming on and saying it's crap is not discussing it since there's really no recourse to that comment except 'hmm, I disagree'. Great discussion you masterminded there:brickwall :cuckoo:
A valid opinion is fine, pointless trolling is not.

And why are they releasing? Welll judging by this topic there is still interest in owning the DVD's by many people and the fact that it lasted for 4 years proves it was not exactly un-popular with the general audience.

If your going for the most pointless and stupid comment award then you've got a good chance of winning it:wave:

Just a quick bump as series 3 is released tomorrow. probably the best of the 4 series, this is the one where they move to the Bureau and become more like Government aniti Terrorist officers that simple freelancers if I recall correctly.

Interestingly I just read the review of it on Amazon and it claims that the opening two episodes were meant to deal with Ed's demise since the actor wanted out but then the chracter sighed on again and they were shellved. Apparently they were to have introduced a new chracter to fill the void. The only reason I mention this is that it seems strange that they were willing to kill off the chracter this season but in season 4 when the same situation arrises they just replace him with a different actor. Strange. Oh and and this season has a great cliffhanger for the end of it for those of you who have to yet to watch it.

Alan. b
20-06-2004, 19:34
Thanks for the information Littc, it does seem strange that they decided to bring in a completely different actor to play the part of Ed, personally I think they should have brought the killing off part back because lets face it Steven Houghton was poor to say the least.

Anyway I got my copy yesterday from Play and am looking forward to watching this because this for me is the best series by far.

Somehow I doubt that the new Doctor Who will be anything like this. Not with Russell T Davies in charge, nor with Christopher Eccleston in the main role. And what's more, they've got Brian Hitch as a consultant so this is going to be one hell of a show, totally unlike any previous Doctor Who or sci-fi show we've ever seen.

Thought I would bring this topic back up as I've just seen that Bugs Series 4 is due for release on Monday August 23rd which isnt much longer to wait :)

Cant Wait for this actually, I never actually saw all the episodes from this series and only remember seeing about half the episodes, also curious to see this last episode as apparently it ended in a cliffhanger but as you know, it ended after this series.

Going to be a shame not seeing Craig in these series, still dont know why he couldnt stay on.

Oh Well, Roll on Next Week. Once again no decent extras to report on this final boxset which is a shame, just the usual Cast Biographies and Background Info on Allies and Villians etc.

The new Ed is as far away from the old Ed you can get. Steven Houghton who plays him just doesn't get to grips with the role, he was in my opinion totally miscast. It would have been easier just to bring him in as a completely different character if the producers really wanted this actor.

Well I've just watched all of Series 4 and I agree with you Alan, Steven Houghton was never great was he, he never got settled in his role and always seemed out of place to me too. Also it didnt look like he was even enjoying the role of being Ed whereas Criag was superb and always looked like he was enjoying his job, Such a shame.
Also Why did Craig drop out of Series 4 anyway, Did he simply not want to do it anymore, It makes no sense????

Also seen this mysterious ending of Series 4, Again why didnt the Series continue, It ends in a great cliffhanger but it suddenly ends there???Was a Series 5 planned??Obviously there must have been because of the cliffhanger so what stopped them??? Me thinks Series 4 was'nt popular and thats why there was a year gap between Episodes 7 and 8 but if it was'nt popular, why still end the series in a cliffhanger and not continue it.
Also I think a scene is cut in the last episode of Series 4, We see Jan and Beckett chase after someone, and then it cuts to Adam Dying, Suddenly Jan and Beckett are captured in the car but how did they get caught because we didnt see what actually happened, just looks odd when watching it.

Oh Well, Its been great watching Bugs again right from start to end, still annoyed the Series ended on a cliffhanger and then it not continueing, Really dumb if you ask me but maybe the Actors had had enough of the series????

Porsmond

Just wanted to bring this topic back up(hope no one minds) because I've just discovered all the Bugs Series are being released in a complete box set(Series 1-4) scheduled for release on 21st February, and its even going to come with Extras in the form of an interview with author Stephen Gallagher on a seperate bonus disc with possbily yet more unannouced???
Why couldnt this interview had been on one of the seperate series discs though???? they could have put it on Series 4 to round the releases off nicely.

Cheapest places at the moment are Amazon (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump.php?url=http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/redirect-home^QS^tag=thedvdforums-21^QA^site=dvd) and Play (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump.php?url=http://playcom.at/thedvdforums) listing it at £29.99, not sure what the shops will sell it for though to get it any cheaper??

The quality of my box set was fine i received it on monday, complete with the bonus disc which i have watched. Very interesting to know that Stephen Gallagher had nothing to do with the fourth series, who knows if he did it might still be on the go.
Pretty annoyed that there is no contribution from the main stars of the show though.
