Are you watching analogue TV? Ch 4 is the only analog terrestrial station to transmit a widescreen signal with some programs.

sounds like your equipment does not support the widescreen switching signal. my old DVD player didn't auto switch and i don't think any of the consoles do it. i now have a Pioneer 656a and an ex-ITV digital Pioneer digital box both of which switch nicely, as does terrestrial channel 4

I have a Panny digibox, scarted to an LG plasma and can't get the auto switching to work either?
Any tips gratefully tested.

Well it has the 'auto' picture setting, which its on and it only changes for channel 4.

I have a SONY DVP-NS700v and it doesnt with that.

Yep I am watching analog telly :(

i meant maybe your DVD player does not actually output a switching signal to your TV (my old Alba DVD player didn't seem to to so but you would think a Sony would). also is your Scart lead fully wired? i am not sure which wire does the widescreen switching though but if it's not there then presumably it won't switch...

This problem is all too common..

Some TVs don't switch when they get the widescreen switch signal through the scart.
The majority of TVs don't have an automatic aspect change for terrestrial TV broadcasts.
Also there are a lot of DVD players that don't send the autoswitch signal.

Remember that if your video/DVD/ digibox connections are not scart at both ends then the widescreen switch signal cannot be sent. So scart to phono or S-Video cables won't carry the w/s switch signal. If your scart cables are not fully wired , or they go via a scart splitter box then this will cut out the w/s switch signal too.

Nice one Simes.
Gonna take my digibox scart straight to the tuner box, omitting the Argos scart box thingy, and see if that helps any.

Thanks.

Although, since the tv remote has an Aspect Ratio Control button, I'm suspecting there's no 'automatic' switching possible with the LG Plasma.
