Extended Pod race scene

This may have been pointed out but here goes.

On the pod race scene there are bits that were not in the the original, namely Anakin doin a flip, this pod coming apart and an extended intro of the racers.

Any1 else notice this?

I think its absolutely fantastic. Infact, it adds (in my opinion) much needed tension to the race in general.

Hmm. I've seen the movie 'a few' times on DVD now, and once you get over the shock of 'it's a new bit, it's a new bit', i started to wonder if the additions benefit the movie. The podrace now takes too long to get started (too many shots of revving engines), and while the additions to lap 2 are very good, the air taxi scene, while gorgeous to look at, seems a bit redundant (before the film moved more quickly from the landing platform to the scene in Palpatine's office). And while i'm here, i THINK an establishing shot of the skyscraper containing Palpatine's office has been removed to make way for the new scene. Can anyone confirm this ?
