It's not been released yet. There was an announcement several months ago that it would be coming out on the R2 'Director's Chair ' series from Momentum Pictures. (The same series as the recent Manhunter & The Graduate )


On VHS (ugh!) its available in the USA on MGM's 'Contemporary Classics' label, so there's hope that it might come out on dvd from them in the nearish future.

This is a film I'd very much like to own. I wonder if the huge success of the stage show on Broadway has anything to do with its non-appearance on dvd.

In fact, on the topic of the Broadway show (which is also coming to London at some point in the next couple of years, but with a different cast, of course), they released a DVD called "Recording "The Producers" - A Musical Romp with Mel Brooks" about the show.

I know this is pretty useless for fans of the original, but though I'd add it to the thread for completeness. Here's hoping they do bring the original to DVD soon!
