Sorry if this is in the wrong place (and feel free to move if this is the case) but does anyone know if there is a worthy version of 'The Elephant Man' on any region? If not, are there any plans to release one that someone knows of?

I have just seen it for the first time and was quite simply moved more than I have been for some time and would really like a quality version of the film. Something along the lines of the Special Edition version of 'Citizen Kane' would be far better than the drab 'bung it on a disc with a trailer and no-one will care' version doing the rounds at the moment.

As always, any and all gratefully received.

The R1 is the best version. See here: http://www.dvdcompare.org.uk/comparisons/film_results_page.php?fid=1186

Other than the lack of extras there's nothing wrong with the R2.

the thing with no name

having had the R2 then the R1, the R1 poo's all over the R2 in both video and sound. the quality of Lynch's overseen master for the R1 is astounding, as is the difference in sound quality.
Go R1 - its the only way (have i overdone the opinion a tad? do you think? hmmm....?) :)

Another vote for the R1 here. Simply stunning.

Yes, that is somewhat the point I was making...

A film from a factual source has no reason not to give you insight into that story, especially a film of this magnitude. I would also like to know more about how the film was shot, received etc.

If there is no special version in the pipeline, then I will opt for the R1 version that is being lauded here.

It just seems a shame to me that I can get a host of material on films as vapid as 'The Wedding Planner' (not a film I own or have seen but you get my drift!) and nothing on an arguable classic.

I bought the brilliant R1 recently and watched it and ended up in tears. What a sad film !

:gag: R2 is an example of how awful aliasing can be
