I wanted a budget dvd player so finally bought a Lenoxx and after a few hiccups have become quite attached to it. But tonight, just before watching "Chicago", a family member (who is even now doing serious penance) walked past the shelves where the player sat with the tray open awaiting the disk, thumped the tray with a hip and the player hasn't been the same since.
We saw the first 20 minutes of the film then the picture froze. And all the functions froze including "Open". We couln't access the disk. When the Open button was pushed the message was "Loading Disk" the after several minutes "No Disk". After lots of efforts including switching power off and on the tray suddenly opened and we got our disk out. This was a rental disk but to compare we loaded one of our own new disks and had exactly the same trip.
The question is how bad is this? If something is out of alignment is it fixable and at what sort of &&&&&?
Thanks for any input K.

If the tray was misaligned then it is possible the laser pickup is sticking. The failure of the tray to eject suggest this is the case. Check the tray for mechanical stability (give it a waggle) and pick up the unit and gently shake it to see if any bits of the transport mechanism have broken off and are loose inside. Either way, repair depends on what you were willing to pay originally. I would only seriously consider repairing an expensive unit. :(
