he went to the same arts school at the same time as an aussie Play School presenter who later went onto write a book about her experiences working as a receptionist in a brothel (called Theres a bear in there and he wants Swedish)after all the acting work dried up. He cast one of her fellow receptionists as a whore in Moulin Rouge. But this might be a bit obscure, the books quite interesting mind, features a meal with Baz at one point.

I spent an evening with him once and found him to be the nicest guy in showbiz (and a great drinker). He cares desperately about the audience and wants them to feel involved in cinema more like they might in the theatre, rather than watching TV. (Cinema these days is swinging too far in the "it's a big TV" direction.) I think the theatre link is the key to understanding his work - at least the first three films anyway.
