View Full Version : World Cinema DVD Books
If this is in the wrong place, then Mods please feel free to move it. :)
I was thinking of possible Christmas presents and I'd like to get a book or two on World Cinema, especially where they review/recommend/discuss titles available on DVD. Classic films through to new stuff.
Can anyone recommend any such books, or anything like that?
Thanks :)

i really like the 'video hound' range of film referene books. I've got the 'trash pics and cult flicks' and 'hong kong' cinema editions. Unfortunately their world cinema version is not available in the uk, but am pretty sure it can be found on amazon us. they give you a plot synopsis and critique of each film and tell you if it's available on video or dvd.

Film History - An Introduction is a brilliant book.
They do not list any DVD though.

This is where you realize that Hollywood is a just a [tiny] part of the Cinema history.
Thanks for the suggestions so far.
I'll give these a look over on Amazon and add them to my list for Santa ;)
Oh, btw, the Videohound World Cinema title is now listed on Amazon.co.uk. :)
Check out the excellent DVD Delirium published by Fab Press. Volume 2 is about to be released.
They've also published books on Mario Bava, Dario Argento, Lucio Fulci and Takashi Miike as well as more general volumes including compilations of issues of the magazines Flesh And Blood and Eyeball.

The new, and as usual brilliant, Time Out film guide contains a new section at the beginnng advising on what should be in every serious film fans' dvd collection.
Thanks once again for your suggestions.
I now have my list made out, so all I have to do it hope that a certain somebody reads it. ;)
