Hey guys i was watching this last night on my pc and i found that there seemed to be 2 1hour and 41 min (or what ever the excat time is) tracks on the dvd..........

I ripped it to my hardrive to take a closer look and there seems to be 2 video files both 20 min shy of two hours ??? Why are there two sets of the same first part of the film on the disc ??

Through powerdvd i can watch the film in title 1 or title 2.

Both seem to able to access the 7 diffrent audio tracks too.........

With both dvds only being 7 gigs and both containing 2 movies on it why did they have the extended cut on 2 dvds ??

Surely they could fit it onto a dvd-9 if they used more like 8.5gig of space and only have 1 video on the disk not 2 like the EE dvds

Or have i made a mess up somewhere.

:blah: :cuckoo:

Are both versions identical in every way? Or are there differences? If they are identical, have you considered the more plausible possibility that it is the *same* physical track that oddly shows up twice for you, and you've ripped the same physical track into two files.

And if there are differences between them, please tell us the differences. You'd be onto a major discovery.

Well there's deffo two tracks that i am seeing BEFORE i ripped anything..........

But by ripping its showing there are two for sure.

As for diffrences i've checkes like a min of each to see if there was any difrence and i can't find any.

Im not going threough both files in there fullest thats for sure :D

If any one has power dvd press right click while the film is mplaying (disk 1) and goto goto and select title 1. you will see 22 chappters thats 1:57 mins long.

Then do it again but goto title and you will see another 22 chapters that are again 1:57 mins long

EDIT
For some reason now i can't change subtitles or audio tracks on title 2 the second movie file :cuckoo:

I have the noriced the same occurance on FOTR EE UKR2 but also on TTT EE R1. see here:
http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=239780&perpage=20&pagenumber=4
2 thirds down
and I know half the answer:

if you select to play the film itself you will get track one. if you select to play with commentary you get video track2 and cannot change subs (you can on track 1)

on track to they add subs for the speakers but those are subsgenerated and not part of the video file. hencde I only know half the answer. qwwhat is weird as well: I used bitrate viewer and both tracks have exactly the same bitrates and the same variations.

PS I also used Powerdvd but birtare also sees two versions so can't just be a bug.

edit: what strikes me is that seeing that the first part is obviously twice on there: would it be possible to put the whole EE on just one disc (DD5.1 and DTS and DD2.0 only)?? leaving a second one on disc2 which inludes the commentaries??

I noticied this too when I ripped it to my H/D to put both parts onto one DVD-R.

I've managed it by taking out the DTS track, commentaries, foreign language(s) and subs, plus shrinking the file and cutting the fans credits bit out, and tbh I can't see any reason why this couldn't be put on one disc - I've shrunk it down so both parts fit on one 4.7Gb DVD-R and the picture and sound are still excellent, so putting it on a dual-layer disc shouldn't be a problem even with DTS as the picture quality is so high anyway. I've just done the same with TTT too.

BTW before anyone shouts pirate, I do own both films (theatrical and EE's), I just prefer having each film on one disc - not only is it a pain in the arse swapping, those cardboard packages are awkward and won't stand up to a lot.

Yes, works very well.

The dvds use seamless branching - they are using the same video track, but the navigation files show multiple video tracks (in order to run different actions depending on whether you listen to DD5.1 + DTS or listen to commentaries)

I prefer to not pay for movies I only quite like, so I copy them.

What is the picture/sound quality like?

When I do CD-R compilations you can hear the difference in quality between the copy and the original. This might be because Red Book CD is a loss less format.

Will DVD-R copy of a film be noticeably different? If not, why not.

And please don't answer that it is because it is all digital.

I have made some dvd-r copies for my old man as he's always scratching my dvds without meaning too :(

I have found if done right you can make copies that most of the time are perfect to the ear and eyes.

I'm sorry? "You prefer not to pay"!!!!?

If you don't like it, don't buy it. If you want to watch it once, hire it. If you want to keep it, then buy it - there's no valid justification for piracy.

Having the same "physical" bit of video pointed to by more then one title is commonly used on TV series with a "play all" option, having one title for each episode then an extra monolithic title which has all the eps in order.
It's not really the same thing as seamless branching.

You should know by now that we don't discuss the ripping of DVDs on the forums regardless of whether you own the original.
