Wow, wow, well first of all, Stallone wrote a great script, and they filmed most of it, the movie Driven clocked in at 4 hours or so, then they had to cut 2 hours out of it to make it shorter 'cause the studio put pressure on them, and what did they cut out? Almost ALL the character relation scenes.
50 Mins of them are included on the DVD (R1) and what great scenes they are! Every single minute of them should have been kept. As the film is now, it's fun and fast paced, lots of action but it's hollow, characters seem flat and 1 dimensional and it's all quick-cut and edited with ever present background songs or music pounding away making it into an MTV generation music video. The movie was suppost to be a character study and they cut out all the scenes with them, or actually they edited them. Almost every scene included on the DVD is an extended full version of what's is cut and sliced up in the movie and when you finally get to see these first original versions, as they were written by Stallone, you realize why the movie suffers, because the material in them is so juicy that's impossible to cut anything out without harming it or making it stupid and hollow.
I've just seen a movie and then these deleted scenes, which make you care for the characters, one scene almost made me cry, they are all beautifully acted and add so much to the film, changing it around completely. I'm probably repeating myself, but it could have been a very deeply touching human drama, as the characters are very deep and diverse. So, watch the movie, then deleted scenes, and even though they're not inserted back into it you get to know the characters so much better than on the next viewing you'll already know what actually happens in each of the edited scenes and will like the movie so much more, I promise.
It's not Stallone's writing here at fault but the damn studio and time restraints and most of all money as the shorter the film is the more showings per day can be accomodated and so they cut out all the juicy important parts.
