According to dvdreviewer, the new Anchor Bay version of Withnail & I looks to blow the Criterion version of the water, and yes, it will be anamorphic. They say:
"Anchor Bay UK have announced the release of Bruce Robinson's 1986 British comedy Withnail and I for 12th November, starring Richard E. Grant, Paul McGann, Richard Griffiths and Ralph Brown. Arriving with an anamorphic transfer and remastered 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack, this includes a brand new just recorded commentary by McGann and Brown, Withnail and Us documentary and stills gallery for the RRP of £19.99."
BTW, the R2 version of Enemy of the Gates , will have a two features the R1 lacks - a DTS soundtrack and directors commentary. I know R2 gets stiffed most of the time, but sometimes, just sometimes...

So many films, so little time...
