View Full Version : Faulty Fawlty?
I seem to be having a spot of bother with Fawlty Towers - Series 1, disc 1 - episodes 4, 5 & 6 just refuse to play. When selected I get a few seconds of corrupted audio, but no video whatsoever.
It doesn't matter whether I try to access the episiodes from the main menu, from the chapter seletion menu or directly from the "title number".
The extras disc is fine.
Also got series 2 and everything plays OK on that one!
Anyone else got a similar problem?
...watched parts 1, 2 & 3 on Friday ... last night played parts 4, 5 & 6 and the supplements disc... no problems on my ('chipped') player (DENON DVD-2000)...

I had a problem on my LG 4710. Select episode 6 - The Germans and the screen would go black and...nothing.
Got the episode to play by pressing STOP, and then PLAY. The episode then played correctly.
If that doesn't work for you then maybe the second layer on your disc is corrupted. Have you tried getting it swapped?
Regards
Andrew
Due to the lack of similar posts to mine, a faulty 2nd layer does seem to be a distinct possibility.
I've e-mailed play247 asking for a replacement.
Fingers crossed!

Due to recent bad manners it normally takes about 5 days to get a reply from Play

I had exactly the same problem you mention with 4,5,6 of series 1 when playing it on my PC DVD player.
However when I played it on my Sony 725 (Chipped) it worked fine......weird

I was hoping no-one would say that - this points to an incompatability issue rather than a dodgy disc. I own both series 1 and 2 discs and was hoping that my problems would be solved with a replacement disc!
If it's an incompatability issue then I'm never gonna be able to collect the full series, which makes owning the second disc pretty much redundant.
Where did you get your disc? (Hoping for play247 as the answer as that COULD mean a faulty batch of discs were sent to them!).

My discs were bought from Tesco. As I mentioned earlier, I was able to play the episodes by Stopping and pressing Play when the screen went black...

Yes I got mine from Play247, and have e-mailed them about the problem. They want me to return the disc for them to test. My worry is that if they find nothing wrong then they will only return the same discs to me.

Won't play Series 1, episodes 4,5, or 6 on either Cyberhome 512 or Pioneer DVD Rom drive. I returned first copy but replacement was just the same, shop assistant said that he has had several copies returned already with the same problem.
Is this an incompatability problem or just a faulty batch? Has anybody else tried replacement copies yet, if so what was the outcome?
I'm still waiting for a reply from play247.com!
My copy has the problem on my Bush DVD2002, my NEC DVD-ROM drive with Power DVD, Cinemaster & WinDVD and on my son's Toshiba DVD-ROM drive.
However - it played fine on a friend's DVD player (don't know what make and model).
I'm still gonna try and get it changed though.

Just replaced my faulty second copy with series 2 which plays o.k. However I would still like to own series 1 as well, I have sent an e-mail to the BBC and am now awaiting a reply.
hmm... I was thinking about getting these from Play. Maybe I shan't bother for a while.
