View Full Version : Recommend me a keyboard!
Hi,
Got a sudden urge to learn to play keyboard, however I know nothing about them. Got about £200 to spend which I know is not going to get me anything fantastic. Just wondered if ayone had a recomendations of:
A) the best place to buy one.
B) The one to get.
Try local music stores - the 2nd hand sections can unearth some cracking buys - Got myself a pro standard Ensoniq 2 years back for 125 quid - Retailed at about 800 thru mid 90s. Sound quality is way ahead of all cheapo players - you'd probably still have to spend 5-600 to match sound.

Are you looking for a home keyboard (one which provides a rhythm, bass and chord backing) or a music workstation (basically a synth with a built in sequencer)?

is there a major difference between learning the keyboard and learning the piano ? :D
cos i want to learn piano, but i dont have the money or space for one.
so maybe its a keyboard for now.
but when people say i want to learn keyboard, i keep thinking of someone out of the 80s whopping out space sounds
anyway, can anyone recommend a cheap basic keyboard, which covers at least 4 octaves. Not into fancy effects, just a piano sound.
sorry to hijack the thread :D
Well I ended up ordering the yamaha EZ250i as it seemed to get good comments on other forums.
I guess its probably not up to much as a standalone keyboard but I fancied the learning functions as I've got no experience whatsover.
Course I'll probably now be told its a load of rubbish and I've made a big mistake!!
keyser - there's a thread
here (http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=237512&highlight=piano) that discuesses that very question. I have no idea myself but it seems to be a different experience.
I looked at getting a weighted key keyboard but they were too expensive for something I might not stick at
