I have a telvision with dolby pro logic surround for which you can connect the TV's external speakers.

I also have a dolby digital amplifier.

I was wandering if it is possible to connect the speakers from my home cinama kit to my tv as well as having them connected to my amp at the same time.

The reason for this is that then i dont have to switch the amp on when watching normal tv and then can use it for dvds.

Does anyone know ofsome sort of break out box or sound switcher?

when you say speakers, do you mean the rear speakers?

you can get a switch box that allows you to connect 2 input sources to 1 pair of speakers. BTech do one, QED and IXOS used to do a much better quality one but now discontinued.

yeah thats right i mean rear speakers.

thats exactly what i need a switch box that allows me to connect 2 input sources to 1 pair of speakers.

Do these switch boxes protect my amplifier.

For example if i was to forget to change the switch when i turn on my amp would this cause any harm?

they do protect the amps, it has speaker wire inputs for both amps (TV and AV in your case) and 1 pair of outputs to go to the speakers.

I have one of the QED ones (MA19) and I've had both a stereo amp the AV amp switched on at same time. The unit allows me to independently switch the left and right channels without the speakers going pop.

Can you not just run your TV in stereo (i.e. not in pro-logic) and then, if you want surround sound, switch the amp on and use it's pro-logic processing?

I would have thought you would be getting much better pro-logic sound quality by using the separate amp rather than the TV. On top of this, you might find that the TV's own amp will struggle to drive the speakers you use with your dolby digital amp.

Matt.

thanx Matt

I thought of doing that but my parents watch a lot of tv and it would be worthwile them switching on the amp for normal tv. I just thought seeing my tv was capable i mite as well use its facilities.

thanks though

this audio switcher is really quite good. not too expensive either.
