View Full Version : Leon - r1 - dodgy sound ?

Hey folks,

Any of you brighter sparks able to tell me how to differentiate between a r1 Leon who "fixed sound" and a dodgy copy ?

I see a lot of Leon's on the classifieds - all either "fixed sound" or not and I bought mine the week it came out in the States - so wonder if there is any sure way to tell ?

If memory recalls it something to do with the left and right surround being reversed. Is the barcode number different on the fixed one to the original - or does anyone remember if there is a particular passage in the film that it is obvious on ?

Any help gratefully received :D

best,

Simon

the new (as of 18th september 2000) "fixed" leon discs carry a different UPC code to the initial 'faulty' batch.

FAULTY: 0 43396 04730 3

FIXED: 0 43396 06196 5

the quickest way to tell is just to check the spine of the keepcase as the second group of five numbers are always printed on there somewhere.

bad news for me .... i have the faulty version. :(

that'll teach me not to own a surround setup!

Cheers Ben,

Thanks a lot for that info. Hypothetically - is the sound problem really that obvious ? Or if no-one had told you would you have not realised ?

It is definatley noticeable.... if I remember correctly, the "Prologic" was OK, but the 5.1 threw virtually nothing to the rears.

I sent my original back and got a replacement cos it was so noticeable..... Leon IS a "quiet" film on the whole.... which is why you need the full effect of the shootouts to "disturb" you....

Don't accept the faulty version.. even if you haven't got the 5.1 surround set-up now, you know that ultimately you will!!!!;)

i don't think i've got any chance of getting my leon replaced. i 've had it for just over a year but got it from express.com (in the days before discovering ringos, MT etc.) so i guess i couldn't have ordered it from anyone 'worse' in that regard. not even the same company anymore! :(

i'll give it a go though! :)

I am looking for a a copy of 'leon - version integral' but think its deleted - does any body know whether the most recent R1 version is the extended cut and are they identical?

nick69 - the most recent region 1 disc "leon: the professional" (the one discussed above) features luc besson's original cut of the film, which is the 'integrale' version. it's exactly the same as the earlier 'integrale' releases in other countries and is definitely the one you want. just make sure you don't get an old faulty one!
