View Full Version : What's wrong with my vsx-ax3?

At the moment if I play a 5.1 movie I only get sound out of the front and centre speakers, nothing from the surrounds. Everything is connected up ok and the amp has the dts/dd lights lit up when the movie plays, just nothing comes out the surrounds.

If I set the amp to the multi channel inputs then sound comes out ok (so I know the speakers are connected/setup properly).

So what am I doing wrong? I'm assuming the digital connection is ok as the amp correctly recognises the sound format.

Progress (well sort of), front display has 'stereo' lit up saying it's playing two channel (even though dts is lit above it), now to figure out how to turn it off.

A few ideas

Is there a standard button on the remote ? (my Pio 859 has this which selects standard 5.1)
Are all the 5.1 channels lit on the display ?
In the setup section of the amp are the surrond channels enabled ?

No standard button, yup all the 5.1 channels are lit as is dts (testing with SPR), and all the speakers are setup, went thrrough the auto setup with the mic, and double checked everything just now.

I'm hoping there's an option to select somewhere, but the manual isn't being too much help.

Try pressing the Stereo/Direct button and then the ones above to see if you get to a standard mode. I know on ym 811 you have the standard button, but I seen on yours you don't

Played with those,

Stereo mode and direct mode dont make any difference, and you can even go into the movie modes (related to stereo mode) and select movie-dts, but this doesn't change anything :(

I thought we had a few ax3 owners on here?

Sorted now, and the room is back to shaking :)

Basically after selecting the movie mode I had to press enter (hangs clueless head in shame)

Hey, we've all been there and felt a right twonk when we realise that it was something so simple to put right. Thing is, it feels worse after posting on here
