Thinking of upgrading from (respectively to the thread title) R1, R2, R1 to the German editions. Any one who has these care to comment if it’s worthwhile?

Mods - if needs be please move this to a more appropriate forum.

I do not have the German versions of these titles, but I rented them - why would you want to buy the German versions ?
Sixth Sense and Shanghai Noon are 2-disc-sets, but only because they have more languages. Sixth Sense also has some useless extra about the premiere of the film in Germany. I bought the UK version of both films later and can assure you that the extras and the picture quality on these two titles are exactly the same - which is unusual - normally German DVDs have inferior picture quality because they often use a worn-out cinema-copy to make the DVD instead of having some remastered version of the film. If you can read German go to http://www.areadvd.de and read some of the reviews - they often mention how bad the German DVDs are.
Some German DVDs even turn on the subtitles if you chose the English soundtrack and do not allow you to turn them off.
Although I am German I do not own a single German DVD - having to rent them for movies that I do not want to buy is bad enough.

The German Sleepy Hollow dvd (and the French one as well) has a DTS track on it which isn't on any other region. I would certainly recommend it over the DD version, and I personally prefer the box cover on it :)

The DTS-Track is in German and thus USELESS for anyone who wants the original language. The English soundtrack and the picture quality are nearlly identical with the US-release. No need to bother for anyone who does not want a German dub.

For Sleepy Hollow: see my above post.
For 6th Day: all European versions should be identical in quality. The major difference between the US-release and the European versions are some featurettes which may be useful for somebody who absolutely needs to have extra features. There is little information in these pieces.
Shanghai Noon: Don't bother! The R1 is definitely superior.

The French Sleepy Hollow is the one to go for as it has an english DTS track.

I have the French version of it anyway, I assumed it was the same for the German release. Good job you cleared that up though (don't fancy being moaned at for mistakingly recommending a disc :)).
