I know why companies like to do spines on DVDs that when you have bought them all they form a nice picture. They do it because of idiots like me who like to complete collections. However why do they never ever match. How hard can it be? Red Dwarf and The Professionals are my latest culprits? The third disc in the red Dwarf set doesn't line up with the other two, and in the Professionals because of a huge gap Doyles' head is huge.

The artists on DVDcoverart.com seem to be able to do it so why can't these companies?

Rant over.

mass printing means it would be nearly impossible to get them all lined up perfectly surely??

The 007 set isn't too bad, but what I don't get is WHY oh why, don't they line up the BBFC Certificates! :brickwall

Picture looks fine, but they are all up & down!

That's possible. But if I give a computer certain dimensions and tell it to print one or a thousand copies. It's still exactly the same dimensions. Magazine covers are mass produced but if you took issue 125 (example) of Empire and compared it with another copy of issue 125, the cover would have exactly the same dimensions and everything would be in the same place.

When these are printed because the requirement for high quality they are run on large format presses so there should be no movement in register. If there is, then its down to either: badly set up press by the printer, poorly trimmed by the guilloteen operator or (most probably) bad design work!

The Bond films are ok but the Red Dwarf DVD's might look a bit funny when finished.

Not only that but those French spines look out of place with the french titles and no BBFC logos :p

Real French DVDs put the writing on the spine upside down (like French books). Really annoys me. Like how they drive on the wrong side of the road. All done by Napoleon to try to make them different from the Brits, I reckon.

Back on topic, there seems to be a few mm variation in the overall position of the cover label, in cases of slightly differing designs.

I was very impressed with the way the Nightmare on Elm Street box set titles all match up!:dork:
