Anyone know of any plans for a release of the eight (?) series?

Kramer ;"What a body.Yeahhhhhhhh....that's for me."

Jerry ;"Yeah and you're just what she's looking for too-a stranger, learing through a pair of binoculars ten floors up!!"

:D :D

It was nine series (although series 1 and 2 combined were only about 13 episodes I believe), and I have heard rumours that the reason we won't see it on DVD is that it's far too profitable in syndication in the states. Also, thanks to the BBC's fabulous scheduling of it, it probably wouldn't receive a UK release due to its lack of popularity (if only C4 had bought it instead, it would probably be far more popular than the inferior and derivative Friends :( ).
I know the show was very popular in Australia, and retail videos were even released (I'm assuming they were just selected episodes though), so I guess the possibility of a R4 version may exist at some point?
Maybe Castle Rock will watch and see what happens with the Simpsons box sets.

Been searching high and low for ages for any news on this.
The consensus seems to be that as Turner have just bought the syndication rights in the US there is very little chance of them allowing it to come out on DVD any time soon.
It may be a different story in the UK/Rest of the world, but I'm not sure that the market is considered big enough. (I'm currently keeping an eye on Japan as they seem to have got ER sooner than anyone else).

"I'm Telling You For The Last Time" is excellent though, and might be some consolation.

Doh! budgenk beat me to it!

YES!!!

Seriously though, do syndication rights apply to the UK i.e. does the fact that the BBC/Paramount show episodes matter?

Friends has been released despite been showed constantly on CH4.

Does that mean it was poor or sad (I haven't watched it yet).

I think in general series 9 hasn't reached the heights or previous series e.g soup nazi, marble rye etc.

Sad.

Gotta agree that the quality has been lacking a little, but there has been a couple of classics. Kramer converting his apartment to a chat show set, when he 'retired' to George's Dad's place & the one where George tried to airbrush himself out of his new boss' holiday snap were all class.

Also Puddy rules!!!!1111

Elaine - Aren't you worried about Hell?

Puddy - No.

Elaine - Why not?

Puddy - You're going there, I'm not.

:p

The guy who plays Puddy is also the playing the lead in the new live-action Tick show. Heard he’s pretty good in it too. What’s the betting we won’t get to see it until 2004?

ed, yes I’d hope that us R2 types have a better chance at seeing Seinfeld earlier than the US but I’ve not heard even a squeak so far and as budgenk says judging by the dismal, not to say criminal way the BBC treats it I hardly think that Tri Star would see an automatic market for it in the UK.

How can you say that?:p

The episode where Kramer rents his drawers out for little Japanese business men to sleep in was class!!
What about when Kramer made the 4 lane highway into 2? Or George's problem with the shrinkage factor?!

I want them on dvd now!!!!!!:D  :D

Yeah I agree too, I love the sadly cynical face that Garry Shandling ALWAYS has, he's so amusing.
But you know HBO is too busy releasing the gay Queer as Folk season box set with 900 mins of episodes from just the first season heh :D

Excellent news for some. Personally I think it’s just another kick in the nuts from the Beeb.

BTW, my mistake - it’s the 23rd & 24th.

Picked up the Sanders disc myself in the Encore "going out of business" sale for £5.99. I guess myself, Baps and a couple of others were the only ones who bought it because it didn’t lead to season sets or even another disc!

I love the way Seinfeld never dumbs down for the (mainly) dumb American public. When Jerry slept with George's girlfriend, George demanded 'reparations'. Or when Kramer's vision is warped by the giant red neon sign outside his windy he insists his 'rods & cones are all screwed up'. Any other American sitcom would have simplified the language for fear of alienating the large (ahem) intellectually challenged demographic. Not Seinfeld. Fair play to ya Larry David.

The same thing is true of Sour Grapes, a movie also written by Larry David.

It's very similar to Seinfeld in lots of ways and one or two of the characters are carbon-copies of those found in his sitcom (neurotic male/whiney old lady etc). It's pretty good too and certainly has an interesting set-up (which I'll briefly explain):-

Two guys are holidaying in Las Vegas (Steven Weber/Craig Bierko) and they end up playing "the slots" side-by-side. Weber advises Bierko to use 3 quarters at a time, because that increases your chances of winning. So that's what he does, until he has just one quarter left and he asks to "borrow" two coins from Weber to finish up. He lends him the two quarters and Bierko subsequently wins over $100,000 from the machine (but with Weber's coins). Weber assumes that he'll get at least half of the winnings as the quarters belonged to him, but Bierko isn't on that wavelength at all and only offers to cover his losses (he thinks he's being generous!).

Anyway, it's all about who is in the right basically and both men get increasingly childish and unreasonable (and the film plays like a really long episode of Seinfeld actually).

There's a DVD (R1) kicking about aswell.

naa they showed the best of episodes. the final 2 are on later in the month., though they are not to the same standard as say the soup nazi or the elaine becoming george story lines they are a suitable end to the series but hey you never know maybe in a couple of years when jerry needs more money. well i can wish.

I thought 'Sour Grapes' was first class, well above average for a US film comedy.

Has anyone seen Larry David's HBO series 'Curb Your Enthusiasm'? Mixed response at the IMDB, but those who like it like it a lot.

[From Video Business magazine]

Seinfeld prepping Seinfeld

The Seinfeld TV series is finally being prepared for a DVD release,
according to co-creator/star Jerry Seinfeld. In the May issue of DVD
Exclusive (formerly DVD Premiers), Seinfeld says he is helping to create
interviews and commentaries and dig up the annual season-ending gag reels
that could be included as extras. Seinfeld will be on The Tonight Show
Starring Jay Leno, On the Record With Bob Costas, and Live With Regis and
Kelly May 14-19 to promote the Miramax DVD of his theatrical documentary
Comedian, which he produced and loaded with extras. He said the decision and timing of the Seinfeld series on DVD is in the hands of Columbia parent Sony Pictures, which owns distribution rights. Sources at Sony and CTHE said it's not a question of if it will come out, but when.
