Fancy revving my digitheatre up to max tonight so thinking of getting Castaway. Been watching thriller films recently and feel like cranking up the amp.

To be honest, as with the film, I found this disc very disapointing, in both dts and DD. Not one to test your system i'm afraid :(

Isn't castaway in 6.1 ? What is that like. The only film I have in 6.1 is T2 and wouldn't mind getting a few more.

I wouldn't say that it was an unexiting mix at all. The plane crash is one of the most exciting audio experiences I've had on any DVD.

The plane crash is fantastic...shame about the rest of the film.

despite owning both T2:UE and Castaway i can't comment from personal experience because i don't have a surround setup. however, i was under the impression that neither of these movies have 6.1 sound mixes?

they both have DTS ES tracks (and indeed a quick check reveals that the back of the T2 case actually calls it 'DTS 5.1 ES' - not the correct name yet a more accurate description). my understanding is that DTS ES, like Dolby Digital Surround EX, is still a 5.1 system as the information for the centre speaker(s) is monaural and carried matrixed in the rear surround channels.

'DTS ES 6.1 Discrete' (not the same thing as 'DTS ES') carries separate (discrete) information for rear centre speaker(s) in a true rear centre channel - thus being a 6.1 system (or is it 7.1? 2 rear centres?). anyway, it's certainly the only one above 5.1 as far as i'm aware - maybe someone more in the know than me (with a surround system to listen to!) wants to comment?

i also thought DTS ES was a 6.1 system until i discovered the SMR Home Theatre (http://www.smr-home-theatre.org/Interface.html) website a few weeks ago.
